what does it mean to kick against the pricks?


Gregory used this phrase several times in reference to a psychotic break he had at work.  I always assumed that "pricks" refereed to his ass hole managers.  But biblically this phrase refereed to the goads to man imposed by God.  I wonder which meaning Gregory in his madness was associating. 

But, me, i prefer the modern meaning of "pricks" ... and believe that at times it is necessary to kick against the assholes in our world.
