Hi Seth. If you check out the <a href="http://swhack.com/logs/">Swhack chatlogs</a>, you'll find that it's still very much active. Though Aaron isn't around as much these days, there are many other new faces that weren't around when we started in 2001/2002, including the aforementioned crschmidt, whose inputs are continuing to keep the Swhack-nature going.
Cheers,
Sean B. Palmer, inamidst.com

(Incidentally, I didn't double post, but I've had that sort of behaviour happen on other sites so I presume it might be a Firefox bug. And I got an error message upon posting: "Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/webadmin/fastblogit.com/html/update/index.html on line 177; Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/webadmin/fastblogit.com/html/update/index.html:177) in /home/webadmin/fastblogit.com/html/update/index.html on line 223". Ah, thanks. I was using rich text at first, but then I gave up and hoped that the box would allow HTML input. You might want to mention that it doesn't so that others don't do the same thing. (And sorry for the ongoing double posts... actually, I'll inspect my HTTP traffic this time.) --sbp

Thanks again; done so. And it does indeed appear to be a problem where Firefox is sending the POST twice, but I've no idea why it's doing that and why there hasn't been a speedily patched version of Firefox released... hmm.

Okay, I'll trace this one too and compare it to the trace where I wasn't logged in. Perhaps the cookie is making the difference or something.

As well as the cookie difference, it now seems that your server is responding with an HTTP 302 instead of an HTTP 200. RFC 2616 is quite clear that a 200 is a perfectly valid response, so it's a pretty weird bug if that's the cause of it.

Yeah, but you're logged in. Perhaps try logging out and posting something anonymously and see if it double posts? Also, I've only noticed this behaviour in Firefox 1.0.7, which is the latest version, so if you're not using that then that might be why you haven't seen it yet.

(Oh, I should note that the 302 is a valid response too. You don't have to do anything to fix that, and it's not that that's causing the problem anyway.)

Yeah, that's not what happened to me. Note that my double posts are within about a second of one another which indicates that they're automatic (caused by the Slogger extension, I believe, as I say), whereas yours indicate the time that elaspsed when you had to go back and repost.

Seth: the original weblog crashed when Aaron's server, vorpal, melted taking all of the data with it. We managed to get the logs back and some other things, but the original weblog is basically gone for now. In its stead there's url http://planet.swhack.com/, which is an aggregation of some of the weblogs of the regular Swhack members.

Since the posting bot doesn't exist anymore, there's no syntax for it. But when it did exist, and presumably when it exists again if kpreid gets around to rewriting it, the syntax was "title (description): URI", with all fields and whitespace being mandatory.
