About: pangea redrawn with today's political boundaries | co.design | business + design


Staring at a map of the world I used to imagine how well the continents & countries
fit together like a puzzle without the water in between.  I don't know what kind of projection produced this result.
There are some partisans who would celebrate a meme that says the US is now reduced in importance to it's proper size.

different maps with different interpretations could be made.  ones which would not use geographic area to to imply importance.

well obviously your post of Pangea ... which is easily documented and already well known ... did not provoke in me the story of the geological development of the Earth ... especially since your story, "a meme that says the US is now reduced in importance to it's proper size", was not about that geology either .

anyway it just got me thinking about drawing maps where importance was used rather than area. when one travels a lot, i imagine that one gets quite a different view of the importance of different cultures.  also when one visits (vicariously of course) different egos, one gets a different view of ego importance also.  so this story, told by Ralston, of the ultimate importance of one's ego, might change, were one to visit outside of one's customary abode.

that is the thought your post provoked over here.
