The dominant patterns ...

of our culture sustain AND restrain our lives.

This network of consequences is strong. It's roots are nourished deep in our habits. It structures our lives. ... er, whether we want it to or not ... both constructively and/or destructively.

here are some of its aspects ...

economics
semiosis & story
behavior (personal feeling, thought, and action) interactions with others ... in other words the mosaic of our scattered lives
attention & consciousness (to what you pay attention, how others pay attention to you)

thinking out loud here .... to be continued ...

talk about the strength of the dominant culture's consequences ...

they form the possibilities of interactions
apparently people must "get a job"
note how thoughts here connect with (network with) the dominant semiosis of our culture via the tags on this item to tags-elsewhere
power and force ... police, war, guns, jail ... ie strong, dire, and lethal consequences
... or immense rewards
sex, guns, and "money"

Patterns don't necessarily mean anything except in the mind of the pattern maker. Witness the features that paranoia create in the mind of making patterns on the meaning etc of things in the world.

well it is true that patterns are represented in the minds of those who recognize them. some of those patterns have consequence beyond those minds ... others do not. in this item we are talking about the consequences which actually sustain and restrain our lives. I suppose that i could have written my thesis sentence here as, "The dominant consequences of our culture sustain and restrain our lives" ... eliminating the curious concept of a pattern entirely. Yet is it not the patterns themselves which we experience, rather than the consequences? Does an un-apprehended consequence effect your life?

this is not a catch all for your musings ... rather it is about "The dominant patterns ... of our culture sustain AND restrain our lives." Musings outside of that topic will be deleted.

My last post is about a dominant pattern of making anti-heroes out of mass murderers.

there is no such dominant pattern of "making anti-heros out of mass murderers" ... that belongs to the patterns you talked about which exist "only in the minds of patern maker". I am talking here about patterns which have consequences for sustaining and restraining our lives.

consequence implies sequence as in cause & effect & yet that may be an empty pattern that makes you go Egoo!

Well yes, certainly we might recognize a pattern to enhance our view of ourselves

... and those patterns may well not have any consequences except to enhance our image of ourselves. That behavior is an easily recognized syndrome and usually has no effect on the dominant consequences of our culture ... the aberrant patterns being too askew from the dominant ones not to just get filtered into oblivion. But occasionally, mass hysteria does rule the roost ... how else could one explain a Saddam Hussein controlling millions of Iraqi?
