Well as predicted Roof's orignial Manifesto has dissapeared from its original URL. I'm glad that i saved it here

Dylann Roof writes clearly notwithstanding that his mind is apparently locked in its own fallacies. I hope he gets a chance to write and publish about how the world around him has changed in response to his actions.

If we are rsponsible for the symbls and language in which think, then in a very real way we are each of us responsible for the symbols and stories that we interact with in our culture and society. If we are oblivious to that responsibility, then how can we ever generate the synergy and consciousness that will allow us to function beyond that of slime mold? We do not piss or shit in a public place ... that is the crime of mopey. Where do we restrain individual freedom in support of a larger society? There is no black or white rubric that i know how to use here.

Another example is: i do not want to think within the confines of this right/left political propaganda memes and concepts here. Hence i like to watch the integrity of the language and symbols in which i must interact with those others present.

South Carolina state government has legally decided that their government will no longer fly this flag. I salute that !

It is a simple thing ... with no violence involved ... and i view it as healthy that the waves of that action will spread to other instances of symbols of racism in the South.

Sorry for those who are giving up this symbol ... but there may be others that they can create which do not have that racial association. Symbols are cheep ... anybody can make them ... and anybody can fly them.

Yes, if we are to be responsible members of humanity, then we must take responsibility for curating the language and symbols in our culture.

its interesting to tease out of his words the assumption that spawns them and his evil action. I think that assumption is that the white race necessarily must fight other races for supremacy. He never did mention or question that one assumption. Too bad, i think he should have questioned it. Makes me think, what things i assume that i must fight, which i really do not need to.

historic symbols may be hated by some & loved by others. The erroneous symbol & idea is somehow the stars & bars caused the atrocity. I showed others where historic symbols also inspire that I would NOT get rid of. Others on FB apparently have some ideas on the subject.

Well the idea that the flag caused the atrocity has been debunked by just about every talking head on the boob tube ... and i certainly agree, the symbol did not cause the event. However Huxley's point that people get conditioned to respond to symbols whether the underlying reality exists or not, must be taken into consideration. People are just using this atrocity as a good opportunity to eliminate this long standing conditioning. South Carolina should just do it ... no more equivocation necessary or useful here.

I think making erroneous associations will not help anyone make better judgements in this matter. Incidentally, since we were just now discussing Satyagraha, making erroneous associations is in fact, doing the opposite. Symbols: (some think they re reality)

Well of course forgetting that the map is not the territory or reifying representations is a grave error.

That said, not comprehending the power of symbols in our lives and culture is to not know what is happening here. The words of huxley come rapidly to mind ... 9 people got killed ... that is reality. Symbolically something has happened too ... more so just because of Roof's careful choce of symbols. Will the symbolic change cause many more reality effects on the attitudes of people in the South. I rather expect that these waves will not just stop dead in their tracks when the media's attention moves on to the next event.

Deed affects life ... and a life affects lives ... and life as art cannot act without the represention of symbols. Without that dimension of story you have sunk into the ennui of bland meaninglessness.
So go ahead, mock symbol wherever it crops up, apparently that is your fixed role

Anger is handled nicely from the ontological (zen) perspective in BofNK (23:38) as:

About something that has passed
Based on a feeling of hurt
Revealing a core sense of incapacity

My takeaway from this is that continuing to stoke the fires creates an endless hurt. The victims of the Nazis vow "never again & never forget" & so the hurt will continue forever. The same goes for the racism of the past in this country. Best not choose war because it is endless & only hibernates for a Winter or so. Focus on something else.

Perhaps you did not notice, but for me, this item comes back to my attention not out of anger, but out of awareness of the healing that is taking place because of the reaction of the community in the black church. Your bringing up anger here is just about yourself.
