Seth Russell Thanks Patrick for pointing out the primary distinction of the decision. I think for once a majority of the court sided with what actually is, the being which matters to people, rather than an old symbol of it written by history. Gay marriage is even more interesting because NOW gays can experience the meaning of commitment as well as DIVORCE! Maybe a 2nd look at polygamy, polyandry & polyamory & the age of consent - since tradition is being relaxed.

Just a wild-assed thought ... if the word of law doesn't mean anything then what good are the opinions of SCOTUS itself? Laws & orders are being passed in secret by POTUS. It is a matter of whose gang is the biggest & has the ability to back it up with force.

Maybe if monkeys & animals get rights then there will be no limit to sex within the same species.

you know there is another aspect of this which people have yet to talk about. What is so special about just 2 peope getting married. Why not 3 .... or 4 ... ? Do the words in the judgement rule out those peculair marriages?

That's why my mention of polyandry, polygamy & polyamory.

When what people are actually doing (or want to do) does not match what they are thinking about it, then what do you change? ... what people actually do? ... or what they think about what they do? I interpret this as another case of the being of action is what matters... not the symbolic haggeling about it.

What is seems strange to me is that it is you who have been hailing the zen of being untainted by language ... but ironically when a case of opting for that, you choose instead mere words.

Yep - that would be strange for you! Prophets who align with big gangs (like the one Obama heads) don't mind when they have the big guns. OTOH, when you are the one with a small gun & things don't go your way then the realignment sucks or isn't so healthy!

Well the power and energy and scope of cooperative action is not something to make light of. It exists. It be. It is being. The bigger the scope, the bigger the effect. I didn't make it up ... and i don't fight it i live with. I just do what i will according to my peculiar being. No need to haggle. The cards will fall where they may, regardless of my pleadings.

NOPE! You see I was thinking about this yesterday before this showed up after some article (there are many) mentioned the gay angst of not being unique any more. I was suprised that Rush also mentioned the race thingy which I had also considered. Maybe that is why going for just being human is not as attractive as fighting something or politically pitting one identity group against another.

I am not sure what you are saying "NOPE" to. You and Rush are thinking alike here about identity groups ... even according to your own admission. Perhaps you do not see that as a contradiction to what you said earlier, "Groups don't think only individuals think". NOPE! I am not in a RushLimbaugh group. He agreed with me rather suprisingly. I labored to point out that I had that conclusion before today. I have often pointed out the polygamy thingy & how things would open up. I also pointed out when the decision came down that now gays etc would get to experience the wonders of committment & DIVORCE. See also this post on fb yesterday. Your identity group brain seems to want to munge things together for some political purpose or just to be right or combat something. If you & I were to agree on something would that make us into a group? Could that rob you of some identity? Anyway, I'm not getting on your bandwagon to paint rainbows on my face.
