Cooperate vs Fight (and/or) Love vs Death

Sometimes you have relationship stuff (eros) and sometimes you have survival stuff (thanatos), I see Eros as the love or sex drive, whereby characters are wanting to merge with other characters. Thanatos is the death drive, whereby characters are wanting to eliminate anyone who threatens their survival.

Simply characterizing your polarities.  Any dualities could be chosen. Some fit like equals & some like cabbages versus non-cabbages are a bit one-sided.

integrity is another form of unity; duality is another viewpoint of polarity.

Distinctions are nice too! If one collapses everything all one has to contemplate is the Universe - a bit obvious, but as a topic not much more than a conglomeration of is - nothing much to talk about yep , existence! yea!


Well there is change here in these symbols which do distinguish ... but, yes,  they do need to be expressed as polarities to be complete: (self/other love/hate life/death).  I was just tripping on the art of reading off memes from their relational symmetry.  I'm working on a mentograph.

Yep, but heed that some polarities are thin such as polarity versus not-polarity.

Well i think a distinction can be hard to make or not ... for example: it's hard to tell if that bug is a weed or not.  I think some *pairs* of distinctions, have a peculiar property in that as the one gets easier to make, the others gets harder to make, and visa versa ... for example: the more i love you, the less i hate you .... hence i call those polarities.   Cabbages and peanut butter do not work that way, they increase and decrease independently  ... hence i wouldn't call them polarities. 

Anyway its hard for me to see polarity/not-polarity as a polarity itself, because it is not a pair of distinctions at all, instead it is only a single distinction.

Nope! I EXPRESSED the opposite above - did you miss it? Another way of saying "not-polarity" is unity. The Venn diagram of the universe containing A & not-A is simple to understand.  Probably not that interesting however, but fundamental to logical & rational thought.


Well you apparently do not distinguish between a polarity and a distinction.  I'm telling you that i do.   What you said above about what you call a "polarity"  certainly is true of all things that i call "distinctions" .   But it has nothing to do with what i call "polarities" which in my ontology are pairs of distinctions which have a special property.

Something else that bubbled up this AM was the notion, probably fact, that no communication happens between people without distinctions being drawn.

A distinction is separating something out from the background to focus upon - hence making it distinct!

Polarity has different distinction depending on the context - see Wikipedia
My hard-drive's magnets are polarized in more than two directions. The notions are exposed in Grammar of Changes almost along with perpendicularity & dimension combined. I'll let you go chase it. Some might say it is a property which shows up with each new dimension.



I'm using polarity to point to very specific processes ... those where when one process increases another other process decreases.  Privacy and communication between two individuals are one instance.  The more you are private and hold things secret from me, the less communication of knowledge there is between us, and visa versa.   So as privacy increases (between us in particular), communication between us decreases ... as visa versa.  Cooperation and Fighting are another polar processess that can exist between individuals and groups.

Interesting how the Book Gargantua & Pantagruel dove-tails into this & otherness. It was a book I read in early childhood but probably missed the point of it all.  Some pictures from google illustrate.  I interpret it to be the state of the country, society is moving towards i.e.

Yep! You are repeating yourself without making any more sense this time, than last. Nice couplet though - not quite Shakespeare since his made sense.



Yeah perhaps hard to interpret ... especially the second line ... the first line is fairly obvious, me thinks.   Originally i was tripping on the symmetry of the symbols and using it more as a meditation than any kind of declarative knowledge ... and that is the attitude i had when i just wrote it down.

Death here is the end of a process, not an end of a life.  i mean Zen initiation can be seen as death of self.  Is that same death a triumph of love of other?  Just a thought or meditation for a July night.
