Perhaps you will understand me better if i am explicit about my own intent.

We can share passages directly from our Kindles and thereby be more specific with our references rather than just making vague and ambiguous gestures.  Since we both have Kindles and both are reading some of the same books ... would that not be useful?   It's like how we share web pages with URLs.

I thought i had implied that to you in 18466, but got no kind of positive response in return.  In fact you seem to imply that there was a technical reason why it could not be done, and now you seem to be implying that there is a rights reason why it should not be done.  Well now i think i have quite adequatley explained why neither is a good reason not to use these kind of direct pointers.

So i ask you directly ... can you do it ... and/or do you not want to do it?

I too support the idea that good ideas, information & artwork should spread & be shared.  I also support the idea of copyright!  Some artists & authors & could not continue their work without the living the get from selling their books & art. In the old days music like that of Mozart & Leonardo Da Vinci was supported by sponsorship of kings & those who could afford to have their  favor curried.  Today imagine what kind of Art would come from the government & whose point of view would it represent. NEA etc.; political correctness as far as the eye can see.

Well you should note that sharing passages from Amazon Kindles via goodreads (which i expect is an amazon owned service) already satisfies all copyright requirements in favor of the author.  Those are almost certainly written into the amazon/author contract.   Authors love this ... of certainly should ... sharing their passages this way will certainly advertise their books to their advantage.

So i said all of that to ask you why you said what you said here?

(***) - sometimes you seemed otherwise.
... well has to do with that aspect of meaning which is the effect you get from your communication.  In this case i cannot calculate the effect you intended,  without asking you.

The only intended effect that i can anticipate is that you are admonishing me for sharing directly from PR's book as if it were actually a copyright infringement ... and/or you are providing a reason why you do not do likewise.  But since both of those are contra-factual (see my paragraph above) i am left with a not knowing.  Me i am curious ... and delve as deep as i can into others ... i call it intimacy ... others may at times call it invasion.   Your choice there .... not mine.

Like I said in the chicken thingy (***) - IF YOU READ what I write the stuff you make up in your mind about why or other horse-shit is irrelevant. Never learn though. Keep asking that question!

Well i did read exactly what your wrote ... carefully actually ... and of course saw that what you said was true and strangely obvious.  then i tried to read what you sad in context of where you said it being conscious of the fact that it necessarily is an interaction between you and me perhaps more in the context of 18466 than in the context of 18632.  So is this something that *i* must learn ... or more something about you which you don't want me to know?

I share using the notation: PC 12:60 at the end -
The simplest statement of a method.
Although going beyond methods are advised: PC 13:16

I tried it. I have an old Kindle Fire. Got lost between viewing the paragraph, taking note of it & wherever it was supposed to show up next.  The Kindle has a retarded keyboard & entry system, quie different from my computer - I prefer using my computer. If I am talking about something on the Internet, I can just provide links. Other books have a location in kindle.

For example the book 99 Ways to Leave Leviathan has at location 114 a paragraph (#19) called Universal Publishing. Such paragraph touts the use of the Internet for publishing & avoiding the newspapers & book monopolies (no more).,
of course if you don't have a kindle or the book on it such reference is meaningless. I can scan my Kindle if I reverse the screen to white on black & it comes out fairly good. I don't think that is quite a fair use depending upon the amount scanned & the mention of where it was found.

Incidentally i already, me thinks, totally debunked your rationalization about fair usage, which now you continue to ignore

i don't understand this focus on playing a guessing game ... if one is in doubt, why not just ask?  if one can assume a common purpose in some context, then a honest answer could be expected to happen, and the common purpose can progress from there.   If, on the other hand, there is no common purpose and in fact the only purpose is a zero sum game, then the whole dialogue is a waste of time anyway ... best then to just ignore.

As to the above it is not immediately obvious ... and i don't think it would be a good use of my time to try to figure it out.   So what is it's connection to what you think 18632 is all about ... and how does it inform that?
Yep, not a good use of my time either. Sorry I posted it. Delete it, I can't.  Pardon the interruption.

Well yea that reference is meaningless unless one has bought that particular book ... which in this case, i have not.  Alternatively the screen scrape, which is what the kindle share button does, should provide all that is necessary and might just get someone else to buy the book.

Incidentally i already, me thinks, totally debunked your rationalization about fair usage, which now you continue to ignore
