Diaspora

About: diaspora - wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Such an interesting phenomena seems evident these days for lots of the reasons in Wikipedia.  Is it a precursor to War or Depression? Both appear more likely these days.
Wikipedia: ... based on its causes such as imperialism, trade or labor migrations, or by the kind of social coherence within the diaspora community and its ties to the ancestral lands. Some diaspora communities maintain strong political ties with their homeland.

hwan

Wikipedia: ... The term is derived from the Greek verb διασπείρω (diaspeirō), "I scatter", "I spread about"[1] and that form διά (dia), "between, through, across"[1] + the verb σπείρω (speirō), "I sow, I scatter".[1] In Ancient Greece the term διασπορά (diaspora) hence meant "scattering"[1] and was inter alia used to refer to citizens of a dominant city-state who emigrated to a conquered land with the purpose of colonization, to assimilate the territory into the empire.[5] An example of a diaspora from classical antiquity is the century-long exile of the Messenians under Spartan rule.

Usually the host country, in the long run gets stronger, by adsorbing the new culture.  i think that is almost a principle of life ... also i think that is the overall result of hwan
I doubt it. There is nothing to substantiate one way or the other to make such a generalization as this comment has made.  True, the Greek thinking may have improved the conquering Romans.  I don't see the Muslims of today invading helping anything out. A lot of horseshit ins found under the umbrella of culture.

Well i suspect this is one of those glass half empty/ or half full kind of LOA thingies.   But i didn't make it up myself, i read it somewhere, you would find it if you would care to look.   Another place we see this same thing is in genetics ... in the advantage gained by a population which has diversity in its genome.  If your instinct is always to introvert and select for some conception of inner-purity, then you probably are not going to want to see ... hwan ... like i said, i think it is one of the principles of life.
Yep generalities continue including yours about me. horse droppings still prevail!

the advantages of hwan could be calculated objectively by counting possibilities.
Including sweeping up the horse shit: assorted random pieces.

it might be interesting to see several passages where GW used hwan ... study the context of those usages ... see how GW used this concept.  i would hope that he didn't have your spin on it ... but who knows.
Take your own advice professor & do the work yourself. I have already .

Am not into ethnics nor particularly my own geneology.
ethnic (adj.) Look up ethnic at Dictionary.comlate 15c. (earlier ethnical, early 15c.) "pagan, heathen," from Late Latin ethnicus, from Greek ethnikos "of or for a nation, national," by some writers (Polybius, etc.) "adopted to the genius or customs of a people, peculiar to a people," and among the grammarians "suited to the manners or language of foreigners," from ethnos "band of people living together, nation, people, tribe, caste," also used of swarms or flocks of animals, properly "people of one's own kind," from PIE *swedh-no-, suffixed form of root *s(w)e-, third person pronoun and reflexive, also forming words referring to the social group (see idiom). Earlier in English as a noun, "a heathen, pagan, one who is not a Christian or Jew" (c. 1400). In modern noun use, "member of an ethnic group," from 1945.

In Septuagint, Greek ta ethne translates Hebrew goyim, plural of goy "nation," especially of non-Israelites, hence especially "gentile nation, foreign nation not worshipping the true God" (see goy), and ethnikos is used by ecclesiastical writers in a sense of "savoring of the nature of pagans, alien to the worship of the true God," and as a noun "the pagan, the gentile." The classical sense of "peculiar to a race or nation" in English is attested from 1851, a return to the word's original meaning; that of "different cultural groups" is 1935; and that of "racial, cultural or national minority group" is American English 1945. Ethnic cleansing is attested from 1991. Although the term 'ethnic cleansing' has come into English usage only recently, its verbal correlates in Czech, French, German, and Polish go back much further. [Jerry Z. Muller, "Us and Them: The Enduring Power of Ethnic Nationalism," Foreign Affairs, March/April 2008] The fact that I am here now & human is enough to proceed through life. Others may want to hang onto ethnicity as an excuse for this or that - if it pleases you go for it. Me? not my bag.

Seth Russell yep it is the nature of the beast. i've watched this happen since i because somewhat socially aware in the 70s. there is war and turbulence in the world and then American adsorbs a new ethnic minority. hmmm ...i wonder ... can you trace your heritage to such an event? bear in mind that some of these go way way back.
