The art of changing tags

If I select an item in a tag room that has many tags & change some or all of the tags I had better not change the tag I selected it with or I will lose sight the item. This is particularly important if the item has only one tag & I want to delete it.

There is NO substitute for consciousness during these moments. One does not want to have to search serially in a large common river for an item.

Working from the permalink seems to be the safest for a single item.

Well if you are in a room, … and you are looking at an item in the room, … and you say, “this item should not be here in this room”, … so you send it out of the room, … why would you necessarily want to follow it where you sent it? Your focus is the room you are in. And that is the way the live system works now.

But let’s suppose we want to follow the item, and it has several tags on it, which room would you want to land inside? I do not see the need to put in a lot of time and logic to coherantly follow an item out of a room.

I suppose you could land on the permalink of the item which you changed. But why … you are probably curating a room … this was an item you didnt want there … so you kicked it out … now finish what you were doing.

So i vote for the current live behavior.

And wait … there’s more …

If you focus actually is the item itself … go to it’s permalink … edit away … you will not loose track of it.

Okay. Now that I understand it better, it looks like it was fixed some time ago because.

You can’t select the tag that got you to a tag room. It is disabled.
You can’t delete tags in a tag room anyway.

So you can’t delete your own reference. Cool.

sure you can delete tags from items in a tag room when you are in that room.

But you can only edit (hence delete) a tag that you did not affix yourself, unless you are signed on with the permissions of that group.

Okay. I guess you can. The one I tried apparently didn’t have any of those. I guess it is still not a bug though as you say. I thought it was creating flotsam. It’s just de-tagging. I never can find things again anyway unless they have very specific tags … this one little thing would hardly help that. Need a title and body search

yes, title and body search are definitely a needed added feature, as we discussed.

i mis-spoke abve a bit … let me say it clearer …

you own the right to edit the tags on a item that you create … you are king. so nobody else can edit or delte any tag you affixed unless they know the password for your group and can sign on to it … then they are just like you, and have the same rights as you.

But anybody can tag any item that they can see. Hence we get tag fights … and people gather around and hoot and holler … you make a thingey and call it a “cat” … and some ass hole comes along and calls it a “rat” … so you delete his stupid “rat” tag … and he keeps just tagging it again … eventually the ass hole will loos interest and the thingie will then be clearly called a “cat”. That is actually the way natural language works.
