Alternative Energy

Anyway, back to alternatives ... but an alternatives to what:

fossils are shit and burning them is putting shit in our environment.

Now that may be just my representation, my story, my imagination, my thought, and what I wrote ... but in how many possible universes do those representations match with what is happening there?

In how many does it match, but people wanting to live there, deny it? ... guess if you own an oil well, that would be you.

Me, i want alternatives to those experiences, to those events, to those happenings ... and luckily, i don't own an oil well.

Yeah, the fraud thingy on the patent is un-encouraging.   I remember when d'A was selling things which magnetized the gasoline & supposedly magnetized the particles in the combustion chamber & that made the car more efficient.  Problem was that the smog tests ran into a problem because of the system wiring got frustrated.

If they "run on water" why do they need fueling stations?  If nothing else the "headline" is false cuz they run on hydrogen. They also run on rubber, i.e. the tires. Why not tout that?
I like alternative energy with lots of minds involved.  Yet that was Obama's biggie at one time & yet very little has happened that has changed the dynamic.  Most of the new methods of supplying energy would not work without subsidies.
I suspect that the magnetic fields will be the next breakthrough not something else to burn like hydrogen.

i don't know the details of the particular cars to which you refer, but i imagine: if they "run on water", then the fueling stations are there to provide the water.

I (too?) like alternative energy with lots of minds involved in engineering energy changes and designing them for practical use by many people.  As in all such projects there is a lot of trial and error  ... the errors should not be used to discredit the entire intent, but rather as things to be avoided in more successful attempts.

Hydrogen can combine with oxygen rather explosively ... as you yourself have noted about the Heisenburg.  That process itself yields  water and energy.   I think the trick involved is to contrive that the energy does not burn anything, but rather makes the car run along the ground.

Yep, atomic power has the same problem.  I will believe it if one can just drive & pick up a bottle of distilled H2O from the grocery store & continue on one's journey. Someday cold-fusion may work.  It is just the same process with radioactive H2 & O2.

The Conservation of Energy lecture by Feynman at Caltech is here: http://goo.gl/KYlwdi
I wish I had had him as a physics professor & I might have become a physics major.

i'll read this again, but according to my memory Feynman defined energy as what was conserved in interactions ... not just a fudge factor to balance some abstract equations.  This principle of conservation does constrain the universe as we experience it ... things would happen differently if the principle did not obtain.

Then too there is psychological energy ... how metaphorically similar is that constraint?

I didn't use the word fudge factor & I read it again this AM. There is no real non-abstract definition of energy. Work otoh is force through a distance etc. "Something conserved in interactions" is not something detectable as a thingy, eh?

... sure it is.

If i measure a ratio in a system before a change, then let the system change, and measure that ratio after the change, and find that the ratio has not changed (notwithstanding that factors of it did change), then i have detected a "thingy" (an feature of the system) that was conserved.

Whatever consciousness is (not necessarily awareness) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_%28psychological%29
The above is from Wikipedia.  What are you talking about from analogy/metaphor?

Well i didn't say anything here about consciousness or awareness ... that seems to be another topic.

All i am saying is that energy in a physical system can be used as a metaphor for psychological energy.  How closely the metaphor matches ... and where it  breaks down ... is a matter for study or conjecture.   For example, if a person doesn't have enough psychological energy to do something, they will not perform that task ... if a mechanism  does not have enough physical energy, it will not perform a given task, either.  We might just find that there are many such features that are analogous.

Or the metaphor may not apply at all.  That's why I brought the Wikipedia definition into the conversation since you really didn't define what you were talking about enough to focus on it.  The Wikipedia definition brought up consciousness.  Check it out!

ok i get it, that's what you meant.

thing this, I don't think it is a binary apply/not-apply matter:   anything could be a metaphor for something else ... metaphors are just like any other representation of something, in that people are free to make them up and interpret them to apply or not.  the only question is how many similar features of the thing and the representation can be found ... the more similar the features, the better the metaphor will represent.

then too, some things are quite so very vague and new to our consciousness, that the only way we can represent them to each other is by way of a metaphor to something that we already know.  way back in the day, when Christianity was so very new to civilization, Jesus made ample use of metaphors to express the spiritual things he was talking about, for which there were no words yet to refer.

i don't know about you, but my psychological energy waxes and wanes all the time and i usually know approximately what drains it and what increases it ... and when it is up, and when it is down.  yesterday it was down ... today it is up.  other people perhaps keep a steady energy level ... denise for example.  Another feature that is analogous is how when I get tired towards the end of the day after i have done enough work for my day, i will be too tired to perform other tasks ... my energy for such has drained away.  so i claim that there are many features of psychological energy that are analogous to physical energy.  that's why people the same word, "energy", seems to work to refer to both of them.
What you describe I would just call MOOD!

well i think energy and mood are similar aspects of the state of my being.  i think i can frequently distinguish them from the inside  ... i doubt that you could always distinguish them from the outside.  for example you might notice that i was acting tired, but you couldn't tell whether i was feeling my synchronicity with the world notwithstanding my fatigue.  you could tell i had enough energy to do something with zest, but you couldn't necessarily tell whether i was doing it happily.

OK (not for me however) I will put you in the column of Feynman deniers & walk away from this stuff.

well i will need to re-read Feynman's presentation to determine for myself whether anything that i said there contradicts anything that he said.  At the moment i see no contradiction at all.
