some decay smells one way & some another. a decaying body smells like vomit or worse. decaying grapes smell like wine. decaying sour mash smells different . decaying language has little smell at all. arguing from metaphor is decay, but probably only stinks metaphorically.

Using things that we know, to explain similarities in things we do not, is an excellent way to understand ... no decay involved.  But yep, arguing from them is just stupid.
Decaying language is language where the words decay in meaning & assume a different pose even in current usage. Political correctness is an awesome example. Political-speak is another. Advertizing branding is another. Lots more can be found in the Urban Dictionary - for example munging & bukakke
