it's time to ban guns. yes, all of them.

source: new republic

On the pro-gun-control side of things, there’s far too much timidity. What’s needed to stop all gun violence is a vocal ban guns contingent. Getting bogged down in discussions of what’s feasible is keeps what needs to happen"no more guns"from entering the realm of possibility. Public opinion needs to shift. The no-guns stance needs to be an identifiable place on the spectrum, embraced unapologetically, if it’s to be reckoned with.
... i tend to agree .

Here again we have a case of awareness being relative to the firmly held beliefs of our mind.  Relative to the firm belief that changing the interpretation of the 2nd amendment, the only practical solution to gun violence in America is impossible.

Incidentally I am persuaded that the current weak measure of gun control we have now are totally ineffective and cannot be fixed even with the best measures  being proposed today.  Also that those measures bite more heavily on law abiding citizens perhaps taking away their protection, than on criminals who are the major perpetrators of gun violence.

So that leaves me with two choices ... either I accept that America is going to continue to be a violence gun obsessed nation ... or take all the guns away ... take away the things that are catalyzing this violence.

OMG  how stupid is Bozo to voice say such a bizarre belief!  [there i said it for you]

So assume that we can take guns away from everybody, both criminals and law abiding citizens.   Do you not think that would make for radically fewer killings in our society?

Assume the Golden Rule is strictly enforced by God & country .... would we need guns or knives (other than eating) ?

LOL Golden rule enforced by humans? Somebody's been smoking good shit!

I guess "country" was a little bit excessive since God enforced it first.

but i even want to fly up the flagpool the idea that we use the insert a smiley gadget instead ... maybe even with a pull down choce there as to which set would be default.

of course this is off topic here ... it is not even about guns ... but it is useful in some other context ... piickup and paste across items and groups must be in the cards at some stage of dev
nathan 2015-12-13 14:21:42 [item 19143]
I used to think pickup and paste, drag and drop, etc, were good ideas too ... but then it just became a bigger task keeping track of all the correct places to send things. That's why I now like the idea of a backroom and/or attached rooms. Not a lot of thinking required and still organizes things nicely and still allows keeping the front thread clean and on track ... and if the backroom is included in searches, nothing gets losts.
seth 2015-12-13 14:25:32 [item 19143]
well one of the assumptions of MindJournaling is that finding the item where things go is super simple and fast and is not remembered by the meat of the brain, but rather by the taggings.   Another assumtion of MindJournaling is that each unique separate topic has it's own item.
nathan 2015-12-13 14:27:58 [item 19143]
That ... is a total mystery. You could be speaking German and it would mean about as much. smiley
seth 2015-12-13 14:32:28 [item 19143]
well i made up a new word ... see 19186 ... elaboration to progress there
Okay. First we gotta get this tagging thing in scope. I read some of the doc, what I could stomach, and perused tag rooms. It's all so weird! The breadcrumbs look like a path, but the box above them says all are included. There is sometimes this big red box with Google and things in it ... and the tag list on the right that you can sometimes click on tags in and sometimes not. Learning to use tags here seems to be about like learning the cockpit of an airplane. Why is it so complicated? And what can I really do with all that complexity? And how can I just do simple normal tag things with it? I gotta know some of this, maybe, or maby it will all just work anyway without me knowing.

choy 2015-12-13 16:29:34 [item 19143]
Tags are simple - just a one or two word index word to chse after an item or sub item. Bozo wants to make them more universal than for fbi.
Okay. So I ignore the stuff in the red box. It's just tag searches on other sites right? Not some integration between that site and FBI? Or a broadcasting of FBI tags to Google?

Then what is happening when I click on tags in the right margin? It seems to be creating a path of some kind (also called a breadcrumbs, or at least it's being put in the breadcrumb position on the page). But is it really a breadcrumb path? Or is it an AND of the tags being displayed in this page? Or is an OR of the tags? Or something else?

so the totally off topic degenerative comments rear there very heads.
the only solution i see to those is to just expect that the owner of the blog will delete them.
any problem with that, Nathan, Mark?
choy 2015-12-13 14:08:00 [item 19143]
It would be nice if I could also hide the whole item so I never have to see it again.  Sort of the audience making it private
nathan 2015-12-13 14:09:47 [item 19143]

That *IS* my basic back-room idea in a nutshell.

nathan 2015-12-13 14:10:52 [item 19143]
But also, have you tried hiding comments with the new gadget? It does a similar thing and I always hide yours. :)
seth 2015-12-13 14:13:58 [item 19143]
mark doesn't like my items bubbeling up in the river ... he thinks that if they reappear they are antagonizing him.

but thing is, that is the nature of a common river ... it is not composed by the observer.
choy 2015-12-13 17:11:51 [item 19143]
With Fb I can make them dissappear & their notices too! Why not here.
There is another idea in here somewhere not exactly tumbler or twisty, but something like Drudge for the popular blogosphere.
Well I agree with that. Though not in the current working draft and budget, having the ability to hide any further visibility on a comment, a post, or a group is a must for a viable system IMHO. smiley

The current hide comment that I implemented is a freebee because it was easy and being browser based it does not have to rely on non-existant server user profiles and server based stream information. It could be expanded easily to include posts and groups however. That would be fun. Still browser based and you would loose all the filtering if you switched browsers, but that's still kind of useful IMHO.

I like the idea of tag clouds & word clouds . The lists are too boring.
Me too. And more importantly, I can never remember even my own tags I create. A good tagger would show you the top 10 matches of all matching tags as you type ... probably both as an alphabetic match, and a ranking of how often the tag is used. These kinds of things are not hard at all, there are many plugins for it.

And of course a tag cloud would show the most used tags with relative sizes for the ranking of it's use.

I think I would prefer a hybrid. One line with carefully chosen most use emoticons and then a pulldown at the end that would contain the rest and could be added to infinitum like FB's stickers ... and probably even contain animated stickers at some point.
seth 2015-12-13 14:12:18 [item 19143]
okay ... so for the "carefully selected ones" ... about how many?  ... maybe just one line's worth, huh?
nathan 2015-12-13 14:17:55 [item 19143]
Yes. Probably 16, possibly 20 if must. Double and triple width ones use that much space of course ... like this one is triple witdth.
seth 2015-12-13 14:22:14 [item 19143]
yes i would religate to a gallery choice.

i'll choose 16, probably all with the smaller width and propose them just as soon as i can.
nathan 2015-12-13 14:28:27 [item 19143]
Excellent!!!
nathan 2015-12-13 14:29:52 [item 19143]
p.s. For the front row, you can also choose from the ones in the add-on smiley list. I can put those up front just as easily. In fact, for the basic stuff, your general public with probably prefer those over the raspberry blue ones, I do.
seth 2015-12-13 18:07:12 [item 19143]
yeah rasberry blue was elain's design ... when she was styling the whole site.  now, since she is no longer working here, there is no alligance to them ... so now is just me & mark's habitual uage that is associated there.    are there not many more choices in the yellow style that are abailable online?
Yes. There are thousands online. You can google them and come up with huge sets of them in just about any style you can imagine. Most of them free. The ones that work good here should not be bigger than 24x24 so they fit nicely in lines of text. Your's were mostly bigger, I css'd them down to that in dev. Smaller is even better. I can put in any image you want, or any coordinate on an image sheet you want. The hard part is what you are doing. Looking, whiddling down, and choosing most useful.

I don't know what "the Golden Rule strictly enforced by God & country" would feel like ... but i am pretty sure i would not like it.   Me, I am a free choice, "please ma let me do it myself", kind of guy.  So i don't know where you are going with that assumption ... but i like your conclusion, "we do not need guns" ... not so sure about knives though.

Guns are a lethal power trip that, imho, corrupt men's souls ... and that it is popular to glorify that corruption in America because of propoganda, is a crying shame .
