That's bullshit Mr. IMHO. All research shows, if you don't exercise your memory you get alzheimer's. Reality is designed for interactive intelligence, not armchair potatos!

resizing imagers that were place on my blog too large is one of my favorite thingies.  the image size supposidely being proportional to the importance of its message.

i wonder how the new auto delete and protected areas are going to play with thst.

... maybe a builtin spell checker too! BTW, I have no trouble searching for them, but I have better things to do than searching for them in a pool that someone thinks are positive or negative. Context & use makes the +/- anyway.

There is a spell checker in the toolbar. Just turn it on. "Enable SCAYT"

Actually I think randomized emoticons should be a feature. There are now sites you can go to to exercise your mind with stuff exactly like that ... makes you look instead of doing things on autopilot.

Then, you can advertise this site with "blogging here will reduce your chance of getting alzheimer's"!

Yes. That is possible. In fact, now that this is all happening on the client (which just happend 10 minutes ago) it is possible to use jQuery to *enforce* that quoted block is not tampered with. You could appear to tamper with it here in the editor, but jQuery could be used to simply ignore your changes in the quoted stuff and only add what's new onto the end. Something like that is needed if you delete the original or the MRE can come a visiting to your blog.

Where do you think that can fuck up? In my mind place model, it seems very stable.

You see, the ajax is very controlled. It doesn't let you do un nice things if the new comment did not fully take hold on the server. So what could be the problem?

I like to highlight someone's quoted words when they go hun? - I didn't say that. etc.

yes, apparently that can be prevented by Jquery, right Nathan?     but that was not the case we are lookin at in this particular thruead.

Editing in the quotes is still honor system right now. The MR dude had a good point. What about the ability to highlight in the quoted text? That does seem useful. Will think about that.

It means that if you nest by quoting, you must quote the whole thing.   yet fruently a person resents their thought being reframed in terms of sombody else's comment.

another problem is when i get quoted but i am still editing ... happens more than you might think.
Seems like the first person to requote will win the delete, but then there will still be two new comments, hence they forked. I don't see a problem with that do you?

yes may not be a problem ... it is, as you say, a fork.

it would need to work whether quoting collides and also if one is editing and the other quoting.

So we'll run with this hiding prior comments for a while see how it goes. The comments are still in the db so no problem if we decide it was not a good idea. Dev server only of course.

yes this will be a good exprience.

so it is almost a bug now, that mark could quote me and then shits on it.   How do we solve that problem?
What does

quotes me then shits on it

mean?

Why you always handing me these crap questions?
[edited: sorry, I had to delete that picture of crap. It was actually a pasted data-url and was blowing up the json ... I'll have to figure out what is doing that]

ok but anyway now can i presume that you grock the prob?

if i quote thread sombody else on my blog, there should not be a problem ... unless that person now thinks i have misunderstood or erroniously reframed them ... same problem really if i comment on your blog.   not sure how to solve this problem yet ... but it is a real problem with this kind of quoting threading.   nontheless i do want to try it out for a while ... see how it will affect dialogue.   it may be that w cannot do auto delete ... and rather eventually need to redefine how this threaded dialogue should work.

one big thing we got to think about is a foreign person's ability to delete (or even reframe) a comment made by the owner of the blog.
I really don't know what any of these things mean.

Well go to a professional person't blog, and make a comment on a lenthy thought that they have made.   Suddenly all of their carefully thought out opus is now framed inside of something that you have said.  Do you not see how that might be a problem for the professional?
Okay. That makes sense. The FB way with threaded instead of quoted comments fixes that, which I actually prefer BTW. But this quoted model is the one here for now ... under this contract laugh

Yep (thumbs up).

I still want to see how the auto delete will affect dialogue ... so leave it in for now.

Provided a possible fix for this.

Now it will not delete root comments. It also semantically defines the root comment in a comment block so that it can be easily extracted if there is a reason or desire to. Like to restore a maliciously deleted root comment.

This should be working on all new first comments and their children. It will work on some legacy stuff too, but perhaps not all.

Have decided on choy's thought that although nice, the amount of work required to allow highlighting only and not other modification of the quoted block is prohibitive at this time. You can always copy and paste into your own reply if you need to shout out something.
Down the road there are lots of possibilities.
