FastBlogIt as an R&D platform

FastBlogIt is a great platform to track ones thoughts, bookmarks, plans and directions.  Others I have used are: MindMap, TheBrain & various pieces of the M$ office suite and the IE Browser.

The ability to bookmark items, pictures, links and collect them again in various groupings ("rooms") is fantastic for organizing, polarizing & re-polarizing & these features are all  accessible thru the web browser. Another excellent feature is indirect addressing via so-called wiki references & the square bracket syntax.

The various tagroom projects & related tags assist the researcher in the finding a needle in a haystack problem. Gradual refinement of a collection of tags ultimately leads to a few items tailored to my interest.

There is another problem which FastBlogIt has not handled very well. This problem is the one of collecting and organizing for purposes of aggregating across previous groupings and taggings.  These might be lumped under the terms copy, match & merge. Another thing I have previously outlined as the OR functionality in tagrooms. A large part of what I do with match, merge & copy could just as well be done with a decent OR function where I gather items into a room, temporary or permanent, & retag them into another tag room than any of the tags on the items currently hold.  This would require adding to the contents (expanding the contents of a room) rather than restricting the contents down to a particular few items.

I think what I need is the ability to do this from a group room or a tag room or the common River & have the results land in a temporary work room or a named room of some sort.

Yep! that's why I wrote it from that experience. Doesn't make it any easier. Anything that can make the process a nicer experience for the user is welcome immediately with a or maybe something stronger

Another thing that I have noticed, particularly trying to retag all the ^ and dot tags is that working from a tagroom is an easy way to loose one's place. When I renamed a tag and that happened to be the tag I selected the tagroom with I lose my item. Navigating from a tagroom several pages long & then retagging an item can cause loss of place. (especially if you don't remember to do it from a permalink)

why not just tag all items that you want in your collection with some appropriate (perhaps unique, perhaps even temporary) tag ?  Where does that break down?

I suppose I could go thru the living stream & read and tag and read and tag etc. But getting them all in groups such as several tagrooms combined into one seems like a faster way to go. At some point I may also want to remove something from this OR tag room & yet not destroy a tag somebody put there for their own purpose.

well too have noticed the effect of deleting the tag of the tag room you are in and ending up in a empty tag room.  logically that is what should happen and your faq entry covered it nicely.

That said, one could conrive something illogical, like for example ending up on the permalink instead where the room would be otherwise empty after a tag edit.  The prob is knowing that happened or knowing that is going to be happening.  This is definitely a for me, to escalate the $wish, try delving into the acutal sql (or whatever) necessary to answer those questions.

yes, the river (living stream), or any other blue backgrounded room like a river tag room.  dont't forget that you can tag several items on one screen with one click of add.

you can make an item in your group and refer to various other rooms from that item.  like i did on the plans

But there will be some kind of move and or copy item into your group in our future.  It  has already been wished for .. check  $wish, move

Well, at this moment , SQL is a for me.
