repositioning gadgets on items

i think the edit and trash gadgets on item should be moved to the item trailer … perhaps with the edit on the right and the trash can on the left.
a very frequent caus of me re-editing a item is to hide comments. it would be totally slick to put that as a gadget on the item trailer too.

The hide comments feature as it works right now seems klunky. I understand the need for it, but it’s not an elegant feature that takes care of itself in a flowfull way. I think it needs a redesign. I will keep my eye toward that.

The other stuff, probably. I don’t tend to like settings at the end of something. That’s not industry standard and is not where you usually are when you want them either, especially on a large post which these should become more often in real bloggy space. But I have ideas about that and will keep an eye to that too.

did you see my comment about putting hide comments in the item bar ? … i think that is what it needs. hid comments is almost essential to allow a person to focus on a room with huge commentary … i use it all the time, in case you didnt notice.

Yes. That’s what I answered. Just doing that doesn’t really remove the klunk from the feature. It’s klunky because it starts out one way and then at some point needs human intervention to keep playing nice. That’s not a good feature design. It should flow naturally without humans being it’s babysitter.

i disagree … only the author knows when commentary should be hid from the room … there is no automatic way to discern that.

I guess you re-posted this because you want it done.
It is behind several other layout changes that need to happen first.
And while that is still in progress, it would be a good time to actually address the problems with your proposal. i.e. edit and settings at the end of an article are non-standard and will confuse people and also puts them out of reach in most cases you want to use them. I have ideas how to address your concerns and keep things standard.

well you are very perceptive

there are lots of reasons why where there are … on top … and (1) close together is not working for me. to list a few: (2) i ususally want to edit a long item when my attention is at the bottom of it, (3) it interfears with the content … especially where the content is being copied to be pasted (4) it is not logical .

All of those are easily addressable and in the design queue except (4) for which logic does not apply. That is preference and convention. Anything “could be logical” depending you your point of view.
