Not some. All know that. Some just don’t allow the expanded awareness such that they can say it yet. So they say only what they can see from the perspective they allow.

seem to me that I know when i am conscious … but i am not sure i always know when i am asleep. being conscious is something that i do … sometimes i do it … sometimes i can not do it. i can not even find it as an “it” that happens apart from my doing of it.

You guys are about 3000 years (or more) behind the times on this one. Humans figured this stuff out a long time ago and what we knew then is 100% accurate today. We have a bunch a new and really cool terminology for it every so often and plenty of that today, but’s the same knowledge and it’s forever correct no matter how many times people go through the process of reinventing it, as you are here.

well it is certainly true that we humans know instinctively what it means to be conscious.

but i don’t remember experiencing it 3000 years ago, so i am not prepared to declare that it was the same back then as it is now.

I don’t know what nathan is referring to in the “3000 years ago” – sounds like the pellick of his imagination.

Just because you can imagine something doesn’t mean anything more than you can make an imagination. RS’s comment about an imagination existing because you can imagine something means only that it exists in the imaginary – he usually calls that the astral world.

i think culture is a large part of consciousness. Society was so different 3000 years ago, so our consciousness must have been too. Certainly imagination is part of our consciousness … i think whether it happens (or not) is up to us. But that it happened if we didn’t actually do it … would seems to make a joke of what we did do.

Depends on why you are doing it. If you are figuring out the nuts and bolts of it, which is what seems like you are doing, those remain the same. If you are looking at specific imaginings or new contexts in the expanse of the multiverse, then there is a difference in the now. It seems like you are just trying to figure out the nuts and bolts of consciousness and that has been done so many times it’s a worn out subject, at least for me. I got it about the 3^rd time. The results, when taken to a full conclusion, have always come out the same. People apply the results differently in infinite variation, but what they are applying has always been the same.

well there are just about as many stories about what is referred to with the English word “consciousness” as there are philosophers … some of them even quite passionate … so, me thinks, it is a subject well worth a keener public awareness.

Some consider it a property of even objects in themselves or perhaps a state of being of a single isolated persons in and of themselves. That, for me, it is too intangible for such an important affair … and believing anything about it that way feels like sprinkeling it with fairy dust. Yet we say, “I know that i am conscious, i can feel it first hand intuitively”, an nobody will dispute, not even myself.

So i zig, where others have zagged, perhaps even you and mark and RS and others.

To me consciousness is an emergent qualia of happening interactions. It is how those interactions feel inside to those involved.
