Cool!  Probably will still be tweaking it as features are created and modified. But I agree, it is better in this moment.

I find that the new dropdown list on groups is a little cramped to select a group from when combined with the things one can do once you have a group. But then like in G+ there may be a lot of different groups to play in. – just saying.  Am working from Chrome & it seems OK to me this AM.

How many friggin groups do you have anyway? I expected 10 to be outrageous! So I thought 3 in the scroll window is enough. But I can’t make that area very much bigger and still have it inside the menu for one click access … mobile considerations etc … maybe you just have too many groups!
seth 2016-01-13 09:36:39 [item 19615#41850]
i am working on cleaning them up … if you know how many clicks it takes to clean just one, you would not be expecting it happen in just the flash of an eye
seth 2016-01-13 09:39:33 [item 19615#41852]
incidentally i love how you see … what is it the 3 recently visited … groups direct in the bar … that was a beautiful touch heart
nathan 2016-01-13 09:41:24 [item 19615#41854]
Yes, that’s a scroll area you know? It has all your groups in it.
seth 2016-01-13 09:44:16 [item 19615#41857]
oh surprise … just noticed that …. hmmm … i would have prefered the last three visited … or the most visited three on the top … but ok, that has got to be a pain in the ass to program.   but this way it suffers from the old fight to the beginning of the alphabet … me being in the “s”s doesn help my view of things there laugh

Well, I guess you are a devil child too! angry
Why you guys have so many groups? My 5 groups fit nicely!
Mark 2016-01-13 09:50:52 [item 19615#41860]
For me it was better the way it was. 1 extra click for clarity is ok.
seth 2016-01-13 09:53:55 [item 19615#41865]
you can still do it the old way to go to an unfrequented group … which is why i did not expect the scroll bar.

i agree with nathan,  one does not need so many groups…  me i really only need one for my  real purposes … but need the extra groups just because of real groups that i want to interact within.
nathan 2016-01-13 09:55:41 [item 19615#41866]
Well, it’s not done in any case. I only added the extra list this morning while in bed waking up. Not like I finished anything.

Around 23 – once things stabilize (including getting the ones listed in 19598 reset) I can probably reduce the normal working set to ~6 or 8 & maybe redistribute to different browsers, though Chrome is my favorite & FF seems unstable sometimes.  IE/Edge still seems peculiar will try it later when these settle in.grin
I am on ~25 groups in G+

wizzard mark, you may (or may not), gotten the drift that all of these groups are being closed.  you will have access to them because you will know the password … which is going to be obvious and common to them all.

I guess anybody can make a closed group open here, but i caution on only making ones open that you truly want to show to the public in our regard.
Mark 2016-01-13 09:57:12 [item 19615#41868]
Since there are only 3 of us right now & maybe a troll somewhere that is OK . I will pick them up as soon as they are ready providing closed means no more that what you described. pondering There is nothing critical as far as I can tell & I might delete the groups if nothing interesting.

one idea, enlightened, might be to put titels as well as group names in the “go to a group” submenu.  When we get a bunch of real active open groups, then that might be useful for newbies … as well as oldies when if we got too many groups started in this domain.

People might even come here for the open groups … or be invited here for one of them … might even consider showing them to guests.

That chooser is scheduled for complete revision. It was a first try using a 3rd party plugin. One reason I moved your own groups out to the top of the main menu, so I can work on it, as well as they are more convenient there.

nathan 2016-01-13 12:58:23 [item 19615#41902]
Pretty sure that is fixed now.

well as of a half hour ago when i signed on to iPhone i had lost them.   …. and incidentally i have lost most of them  right here … i know more groups than this

Si says
The problems I have fixed were related to signing into alternate devices and having the new data on that device overwrite the old … I think those are all fixed now.

Just logged in with my iPhone first time unified users. Kept all my groups. Looks good.
seth 2016-01-13 14:27:56 [item 19615#41915]

well i still don’t have my “unified persistent” identity …. this is from desktop … what happened to fbi etc.   I still think should delete all my identity and let me log in again and claim my groups and see if they persist across devises.
nathan 2016-01-13 15:16:23 [item 19615#41916]
You keep saying “still don’t have”, but did you put them in again after they got removed? Now that there are no more path’s that can remove them (that I know of) you still will have to put them back in again on some device.

I am looking at your data in the database and in fact here it is … it’s perfectly normal. You can completely clear your session data by signing out and back in … that will give you a new cookie (which now is only and id) and a new session blob.
{"name":"Seth Russell","nickname":"seth","home":"administrators","email":"russell.seth@gmail.com","group":"seth","groups":{"seth":"***","rentonfoodcoop":"***","administrators":"***","Marketing":"***"}}

You can see that the groups you have signed into are there … just sign back into any more you want. That data right there is all I can clear. You can try clearing your cookies, but it should make no difference from simply signing out which deletes the cookie.

seth 2016-01-13 15:25:21 [item 19615#41919]
Well maybe i don’t understand what your version of “persistent identity on all devises” means.   I expected that all the groups that i ever signed on to would be incluede so that i did not need to keep siging on to them, since i gave the passwrords to them at least once.

in other words …
"groups":{"seth":"***","rentonfoodcoop":"***","administrators":"***","Marketing":"***"}
are not the only groups that i have signed on to in my devises.
nathan 2016-01-13 15:34:00 [item 19615#41924]
That is the way it should work. You have been keeping up and know that I have reported finding a couple more places where the new data was overwriting the old. When that happens, you have to put them back in. Hopefully now there are no more paths left that the data can get overwritten. You did a good job of finding the ones that were there.
like okay

A minor cosmetic change to the icon might make it look like something more than a dog’s face to me when it is smaller.  For a while now I have been asking myself why did dA choose this one & finally I recognized as a world globe image. Maybe even a river or a waterfall would be simpler at that resolution & more mnemonic. Just suggesting …. rose
Mark 2016-01-13 23:39:03 [item 19615#41990]
p.s. the mouse-over says world but the group thingy says river.
cat people might not appreciate it laughing

Holmes says
Well, it’s not an icon, it is a font glyph. To keep everything consistent all our glyphs utilize fonts in the Bootstrap font set and overall this this has given the site an extremely professional look and feel. Unfortunately the font does not have a river glyph. The “world” glyph was the closest semantically similar one I could pick. But you are welcome to look through the glyphs and weigh in with your pick.

You can find them here: Bootstrap glyphs.

Edit: The above are the 250 free ones. There are actually 800 but the rest must be purchased for $56, which is not a lot considering their awesome value in making the site rock. You can find the larger set at glyphicons.com. The extended set still doesn’t have a river that I see but does have a “fishes swimming together” one that would work real nice IMHO.

p.s. I have seen my own things in the world glyph, but never a dog and I still can’t see the dog. My mind plays different tricks with ink blots than yours.

I didn’t understand your post. Even with the extra context you just supplied it mostly illegible. I guess you were trying to paste the fonts or something but that doesn’t work unless the fonts are loaded in this page. When I first read it I didn’t know what you were referring to … thought it must have been your ming stuff.

Seth says
it’s actually the river at the domain … not really the whole world.  i think others call it “news feed” … but i do like the concept of river.   When there is a lot of thinking going on at one domain, and with atomized stream, it will flow almost too fast to watc(h) … which is why it will need to be socially filtered or it becomes almost an absurdity.   Have you ever watched an active twitter hastag that was trending?  I find those exciting … but we will need tools to be able to focus on what is going by.

Too bad about the cookie cutter icons.  chon or Chinese

chuān is symbolic of a stream or river.  There is one of your cookie cutter ones – UTF+e085
&#xe085
9 - e
that looks like a wavy stream but they associate it with fire instead.
The symbol you chose triggers my memory of my old dog Wolfgang.

nevertheless let the customer feedback prevail.

yes the tooltip should be congruent with the image in some way – “swim down the river” or something like that.
