well i tried to go forward in  time (here you need to use the pointer that looks like it is going backward and says “prior page”) and see if you wrote the item later … i scanned as long as i cared to and did not find it.   strange the permalinks are on the group background, yet it includes all items in the river.   maybe at some point there will be a concept of going back and forth in time individually filtered to a specific group … but am not sure we need it … I would seldom, if ever, use it.

also the scan stopping on deleted items … and private items un-identified … seems just kind of silly now.

Okay. I’ll bite. You have to shift your thinking from “time based” to “ordered set based”. The search room is a good example and I have thought would be a good way to do all room.

In the search room the default ordering is “natural language ranking” but you can change that ordering to be “date decending” if you like. Either way, the paged results bar works the same on the set. Group rooms could have that same mechanism with several options as to how the set is ordered. By date, by user, by title, etc.

None of this has anything to do with what I wrote, eh? 6 years ago.  I would however on another item – maybe in group fbi ask to be able to view a group oldest to newest items – keeping the meaning of the arrows static but indicate somewhere which time sort is going on. Such would help triage old groups.

Since when do comments have anything to do with the thought? Almost never in my experience here.

As to the other thing, that’s EXACTLY what I said. Did you read what I said and apply it to what you see happening with the paging bar in the search room and how that would work similarly in groups? Have you even used the paging bars in the search room? If that same bar was in group rooms, it would do exactly what you say. You could page from either end as desired.

Like I said this has nothing to do with my thought/item or what I wrote – why would I want to do it? It is out of context. You must be talking to Seth.
Your the one who asked. “I would however on another item”

wizzard  yep, comments are “suppose” to be about the thought in the body.  obviously that varies a whole lot here.   That kind of focus can be enforced or not by various signals.  I used to tag mine … or just put someting in the thjought like “stay on topic”.    But frequently the dialougue that is provoked by the thought meanders into areas more important and more interesting than the original thought.   Ain’t that just the way it is.

Incidental, i guess you knew that there was nothing anybody but you could have known about your thought here.  I tried to find something, but could not.
dA 2016-01-26 16:06:44 [item 19768#43720]
Yep. People should write where the thought is fresh. Other people should zap those comments over to where they thing they should go … I have said this before. Zapping feature needed. But until then, I for one am sure not going to break my focus and move around while I have the thought in mind. And clearly, reading the commentary here, others actually FEEL the same even if they think differently … because that is what actually happens consistently.

surprise did all of those comments get moved over here by hand?

Nope! While you folks were going back & forth I changed the content in the item itself.  You just noticed it? laughing

group, tag,  title, and even permalink  “rooms” are ordered by time.   or at least that was the way it was in fbi1.

now search rooms … yes, those are ordered opionally be pertanance or time.  and yes most search rooms on the net go right to go into more and more obscure results …. and yes usually  older stuff is more obsure results.

your current labeling of the arrows is just wrong.   now as to  the direction? … well traditionally i go with left is earlier, right is later … i have never seen a timeline where it was backwards to that … except now at fastblogit.
dA 2016-01-26 15:58:50 [item 19768#43717]
That is not the point. Would it not be nice to be able to page through a group as easily as the paging works in the search room? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to order the paging by date, either way, and by title and by user and by tag etc? Then, of course, the paging would be correct, by set … and we would do away with the arrows on the top which are not often very useful anyway. In big groups, the top arrows take too long to get anywhere … I just search for things which is quicker.
seth 2016-01-26 16:06:47 [item 19768#43721]
i page through groups and tag rooms and the river all the time … how are you proposing to improve that? … hopefully not by imposing an extra page of just titles in the way … that would just slow me down.
dA 2016-01-26 16:09:23 [item 19768#43723]
Is is so difficult to imagine the paging bar, from the search room, on the bottom of any room? (and optionally on the top if one likes?) it would give everything you got now and 100 times more. Just like the other day when you “went back and time and found a thought” in a search room, so you said, because it was so easy. How bout that same thing and ease being in every room?
Mark 2016-01-26 16:28:35 [item 19768#43725]
One could leave the arrows where they are and change the surrounding space to red for out of natural order or some other less offensive color indicting order selection.
Well talking here just about group, river, and tag rooms.   These are like turning pages … you see everything on the page … and the pages go back in time.   What i read these rooms i scan top to bottom and then i turn the page to the left.   It was simple and intuitive … just flipping pages  … reading how these thoughts happened one after the other.  I don’t think complicating that is going to improve things.

Maby discuss other kinds of search results in a different train … gets kind of confusing otherwise.

Apparently the new items do not get an original date-time stamp & a changed one like the old ones do.crying
Yes they do. As always it only shows one if they are the same.
If you want to bump the changed date, repost it. Use the “repost” checkbox next to the save changes button.

It is entirely up to you if you are making a noteworthy change or just tweaking it.
After all, it was you who used to complain about all of Seth’s little edits appearing in the river and news.
For over a month now, they have not been.
