Scoping the tag cloud
Do we have a date of tagging in the tagging table? I forget.
Is so then we could do like http://thoughts.com is doing and let the (or a) tag cloud show only the tags since some specified date. It would be more useful than going back into ancient history.
So the tag cloud becomes a way for a browsing person to see what is currently the of interest at the site. I just used that to get a quick feeling of what was going on ove there at thoughts.com … worked like a charm.

yes, eventually i see tag clouds being things that are deployed by a person wherever they want to do that kind of pointing. A trending tag cloud, as opposed to a most used, is just a setting on the cloud when depolyed.

Yes. The current cloud sorts by count first, then date. I personally find this more interesting for a general cloud. Browsing in history is entertaining and seeing the overall weight for all time is cool for that.
A “trending” cloud would simply sort by date first then count. Hard to say which cloud is more useful where at this time. Thoughts.com has a lot more kinds of rooms. To be similar, we would need trending rooms etc.

I like tag clouds – presumably they will have urls – maybe edit & pruning capabilities.

i think inevitably tag clouds reside in thoughts which have urls. the cloud itself, is a component of a thought and manifested by it. really hard to give it a url. What is the use case where you would want to?

front pages & sharing outside fbi – eventually it might be nice to be able to have uri for all lists – news, search, group, comments, namespaces ….

every thought has a url which can be shared elsewhere. the cloud on our front page does not currently, but that is just because it got developed too fast to have been thoughtified.
inivitably I see this like a gadget that can be put in a thought … very much like a table is now. could be in a comment or whever that kind of gadget pallet pops up for a person. share elsewhere from the permalink … or maybe even elsewhere as a iframe … but this thing is not an image … lots of moving parts in it.
