Woopse, who’s challenge is it to get “title given” ?

Does http://wordpress.com website allow <iframe>’s ? If so then we could more seamlessly integrate http://rentonfoodcoop.com with our major wordpress website.

But from a google search we find the following re iframes on this wordpress.com support page …

If you are familiar with HTML, you’ll notice that codes such as embed, frame, iframe, form, input, object, textarea and others are missing from the above list. Those codes are not allowed on WordPress.com for security reasons.

so buggers, we cannot do it

Hmmm …. I may be able to integrate it the other way around … make our .com website the primary and iframe the wordpress site from there … would that appear more seamless than just a hyperlink back and forth?

Of course you can do iFrames on wordpress. There are doezens of plugins that allow you to do that, and virtually anything you want. I use iFrames on playnexus which is wordpress. Wordpress has no real limitations … anything can be done with a plugin and there are 100’s of thousands of them and they are easy to make your own too. I’ve made lots.

Okay, I of course mean your own hosted wordpress. Don’t know about wordpress.com, but why use them when you can host it yourself? Wordpress.com is just for people who don’t have their own place to put things. Wordpress is just a 2 minute install on any site.

wordpress.com is where the site is being hosted … that horse has already left the barn.

Now it is possible that wordpress.com allows iframe in a plugin … even though i doubt it … but they certainly do not allow it as just something that a person can put on a HTML page (see quote above).

I guess I never will understand why anyone uses wordpress.com. It’s like living with a Ugo when you can use Heroku for free and host your own and have a Ferrari … or a Tesla!

… and I guess you know, but you can take any wordpress.com site and export it and re-import it into your own hosted wordpress. Fairly painless. I did it with Natalie’s blog.

Yea. Speaktomecatalog.com (or any of your domains). Doesn’t take a nerd to install wordpress. Just drop in the installer, create the db in cpanel, hit the installer with your browser and your done. It’s so easy that when I have wordpress clients I usually install a wordpress for us to play and talk in before the first phone call, and delete it afterward. Would take more time to use fastblogit as a scratchpad than to install a whole wordpress site.

… and redirect the domain, which might be a problem because it was purchased from wordpress. But you see, all of the stuff that seems like nothing to a computer nerd, for example “just drop in the installer, and create the db”, are major hurdles to someone who is challenged by reading emails.

Anyway this is more political than technical. That said ...

What i would like, if it were just me, is to do like you say, just install the free wordpress.org software plugging in the work Miles has done at wordpress.com ….and then “just drop in” a http://thinking.domains into that domain too. Then we would have not only Miles’s web design work, but also a ideal forum for out discussions and content development and the ability to reach out from there into the wider social networking community.

Okay. Whatever works for you. But if you should ever find wordpress.com too limiting, it wouldn’t be more than an easy 10 or 15 minute job to move it and have it back up under your own host. And I’m pretty sure it is illegal for any domain name provider to prevent you from changing the nameservers for a name to anywhere you want. Wordpress.com probably even uses a standard service, maybe even godaddy, for their domain registry.

i.e. if you find yourself spending hours of work just to get things working the way you want at wordpress.org, you could save yourself all that time.

Often doing one little nerdy thing that can be looked up easily on the web takes a few minutes while doing it the non nerdy way can take many hours.
