Niche is for workshops, and events, and courses.

It’s something we were setting up for floodles, but why not for thinking domains too?

How bout a panel that allows you to spin up a thinking.domain for a weekend workshop? Or basically any time constrained event?

It would be either a subdomain or a sub folder I expect. Could be a subdomain right now. Massive code would need some work to allow subfolders.

Then, we could use a thinking.domain for a Play Nexus playshop! That would be a truly unique Nietzsche!

certainly … absolutely … so yesyes

And incidentally you were right about the subdomains … forget about trying to munge together  different software packages that ineviatably will collide.

Where this helps, btw, is that within the same domain I can do direct file copies. I don’t have to work out the logistics of doing automated git pushes and pulls, and all the other things like that, which are not as big as they sound, but still it is a good smaller focus to just spin up a subdoman and then zap it to work out the kinks in the duplication process.

Okay, this is good. I can have the first new domain be a spin-off domain instead of a whole new domain. This will chunk things down a bit and better focus them. Not that there is a huge technical difference, but there is a difference in thinking about it that is helpful to reduce the welmment of it.

which new domain specifically are you talking about?

Hardly matters, I will just pick a name. It will be of fastblogit.com of course, that’s the point. Maybe tigger.fastblogit.com, or just boring test.fastblogit.com, I will choose when the time is ready … it will only be a test, not a big deal anyway.
well … as we are talking sub domains specifically … the only real one that i know of which should inevitably actually be a subdomain is rentonfoodcoop.com. That surly would move my own agendas along.   I would even want to lease it from thinking.domains for the same price i am paying at wordpress.com … i would have to go look that up, but i signed up for a premium domain there and that costs something.   And i could even sacrifice  20 nickels to the Gods wink and another 10 were i to get a db→spreadsheet plugin for the join form.

Yea yea, all that will surely be doable, but let’s not get that cart in front of the horse. Rentonfoodcoop.com is a full domain, not a subdomain. In bringing it up it cannot share file space (webserver permission issues) and cannot have direct and easy ajax cross traffic … right now I have figured out that I can simplify working out the kinks in the whole duplication process by spinning up subdomains of fastblogit.com. Then when that is working smooth, I can add the extra stuff to do a full domain … dem is the apples.
there should be no “cross traffic” between forum.rentonfoodcoop.com  and fastblogit.com.

anyway if you want to play in another subdomain of fastblogit go ahead … not that you even needed me to say that.  that just doesn’t move my agenda any closer to happening.

i guess there might be some use in a coop.fastblogit.com … i could at least function there as i am in group rentonfoodcoop

so that would have a totally fresh database … right?

yes. that’s the plan.
seth 2016-02-05 08:26:52 [item 19862#44680]
could you make a plugin there which would display the members table as an editable spreadsheet … even though it is in a different main domain?
nathan 2016-02-05 08:28:55 [item 19862#44682]
Yes. It would require a custom PHP api for that, which is not a big deal, 10 lines of code probably. The main domain would allow dropping in a PHP file?
yep … i am hosting rentonfoodcoop.com at inmotion … i can do there as a God wink

so would your workshop subdomains be temporary?  … eraced from the server after the event happened and was digested?
dA 2016-02-06 05:11:36 [item 19862#44762]
I think the whole range. Some would be just for an event and could be deleted afterward. Others should stay around longer, weeks to up to a year. Some would be good to have forever. Clearly the name choice would be important for longer term ones.
