well that thought is in progress … so don’t take it too seriously.

The list of rooms shown to everyone thre  is the list of rooms (“groups”) which actually exist here … certainly not the list to which a person is personally “subscribed” … or to which they know the password and have joined.   That list is available under “go to a group” off the group menu.

Now that we have motility, I suggest emptying the thoughts that you want to keep out of those old rooms that are “not fit for wide distribution”.   I just opened  group archives and will proceed to move the old thoughts there.  They can be preserved for  historical voyeurism.   You welcome to move some of your thoughts there too whether they are public or private.  It will have the same password as fbi.

Keeping public thoughts in rooms that are “not fit for wide distribution” is a contradiction in terms.

So when your old inactive groups are emptied of thoughts at your own discretion, let me know and i will delete the group name  and restore that name to our open namespace.   We want to only only allow groups here that continue to draw useful conversations or in which people are currently actively thinking or writing.

I’m going to assume that private thoughts in public rooms remain private or am I wrong about that.  Could anyone in a public room change a private thought to public?
No. Private is always private to group members with password only.

We are yet to have a concept of a “private” group.  All groups exist or they do not.  But I guess a group which exists but nobody knows the name  could be conspired a “private group”.   Currently here at fastblogit i have published the names of all of our groups at http://www.fastblogit.com/item/19519 .  So as long as that remains a public thought, everybody can tell what groups exist,  be they flakey or not.

Thoughts that are marked private do not appear in public.   They do not appear in the river, or the news, or in tag rooms, or in searches, or  even in their own group unless the viewer is subscribed to that group.

No one can change status, delete, or edit a private thought except a person who has suscribed to the group which owns it.

If a person is viewing a public room (river, tag, search), they should be able to change, delete, or edit a thought which is not marked private, as long as they have joined (subscribed to) the group which owns it.

By moving a private thought to a public room then anyone with access to that public room can change the thought from private to public – isn’t that correct?
Yes. A thought has the rights of the group it is in, and all members have all rights in a group. This, of course, does not apply to “draft” which is private to an individual in any group except single view.
