Virtual Rights Request

I want the right to get a copy of all my data, at any time, from the web services I use
I want the right to have all the data stored about in me in the web services I use made anonymous if I decide to close my account
I want the right to determine to what extent the web services I use can pass on my information to other parties

i'm handeling this as a normal entry to our wish list.

Item #1 is pretty obvious and will be satisfied by having an atom feed from your group and should be fulfilled in $wish,feeds.
Item #2 could be satisfied by the author simply deleting all of their items. Perhaps we can make that easy to do. But to change the name of the poster to anonymous is to revise history. The wizzard is not convinced that this is a valid right of an author. It goes against his grain.
Item #3 is being discussed under trans domain and i would like to invite VirtualRights.org to participate in that dialogue.

Most websites I use with a cc spell out the privacy rights they are using.

Seth: It's hard to communicate point two concisely and clearly, but the idea is for people to be able to control the linkage of online info to their offline identity. So I blog as weaverluke, but would like the right to remove the linkage of my blog to my real name "Luke Razzell" if I close my account. Of course, in practice I've allowed the two to be associated in public already, in this case, so it's not a viable example, but if I use an online shopping service, it might well be viable.

Mark: CC rocks. Again, though, mostly applies to social publishing environments.

A rock drops in a pond, a moment later a wave hits the shore. These events are unalterably associated. We cannot legislate the right of the rock not to cause the wave. When you associate "Luke Razzzell" with some action on the internet, that association might flow into an RSS feed, it might be cached at Google, it might be repeated at slash dot. Once you have associated actions on the Internet, there is no such thing as a right to disassociate them.

If you purchase something from the speak to me catalog (my site) we will associate your purchase in our history with your credit card. We are required by law to maintain that association for 5 years. And we have the right to keep that association for your convenience of reordering, or for our own stastical analysis, indefinitely.

This proposed right # 2, whatever it means, needs to be clearly distinguished from the impossibility of disassociating cause from effect. Your current words have failed to make that distinction in my mind.
