Please contemplate a property of context … and essential element of it … namely that context is a collection .  Now compare that to the relationship of what an owner of a property thinks about what others collect there … that which you call “garffiti”.    Then, cognasant of your ego, and others egos, see if you can get a flash … a wallaby, Mr. Wallaby.
Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-15 10:02:16 [item 20809#51240]
Context is NOT A RANDOM COLLECTION !  Maybe yours is. Context is how you hold your distinctions. A chicken can be held as one of God’s creatures, a type of a bird -OR- an ingredient of a dinner recipe.
Seth 2016-04-15 10:12:48 [item 20809#51241]
yep, “context is not a random collection” yes … rather context is collected by some person, or persons.   ← there is nothing random about that.

My conception of context (also held by many others) drills down a bit deeper into your term “how you hold”.   In fact seeing “context as a collection by a specific person’s mind”  actually provides us with the mathematical ability to make them up, operate on them,  manipulate them, or know how to deal with them when they are  encounter.  ← me thinks that is quite a bit less vague than the way you talk about context.
It doesn’t however explain your first encounter with some qualia of a percept & how you manage to hold onto it in a context to make a distinction of what it is.  You can make anything up to munge & wiggle out of or into your point of view about it,  but the context preceeds the distinction. It is after all a distinction itself otherwise you are still muddling around in “chaos not yet become cosmos”; swimming about in a random pool of sensations.

Mark de LA says
Seth 2016-04-15 10:55:32 [item 20809#51248]
well certainly a context proceeds a distinction yes.

seems as if you are talking about these as if each distinction happened separately against its own background of what it is not.   but that is not the way this works in a mind.  in a mind a collection of lots of them happen in each moment.   a qualia, a feeling, happens too and gets included in the collection.   next time the same collection is encountered, will the same qualia be there?  ← more than likely yes.
Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-15 11:10:33 [item 20809#51249]
This discussion is munging further & further into pablum. pellick & boredom.  Do you actually think you are making new distinctions I have never groked? I have distinction & context groked. No need to try to confuse!
Strangely enough you do not have mine! – just opposition to it. laughing
Seth 2016-04-16 03:22:49 [item 20809#51252]
i probably don’t have yours.   Care to elaborate it?
What good would it do? I have expressed it many times & it obtains the usual munge-works from your side of the Universe. OK – one last piss in the wind.
Distinctions separate out foreground from background – i.e. whatever is at attention from all the other stuff; by whatever senses are active to the job.  To hold such a piece of the cosmic chaos one uses the context distinction which brings it into the Cosmos/World, life, objective reality, subjective nonsense …. without such it has no meaning.
How? Why? ….. all good questions about distinction making – but are just making/breaking more distinctions in the mind as is munging about, arguing about & haggling about , …. etc.
Piss In The Wind Decal Sticker<--(***) probably not today either.laughing

Mark de LA says
Seth 2016-04-17 04:31:45 [item 20809#51257]
well we both see that a “distinction separates out a foreground from its background”.

I’m just saying that each individual distinction does not give you the  “hold on a piece of the cosmic chaos ... without such there is no meaning”.   The mind of man does not work that way, imho.  Rather there is a maze of distinctions, and emotions, and possibilities, and habits, and structures,  which gives you that hold.  So that is what i want to call by the new name, “kontext”.   If you look at just one distinction at a time, you never see the kontext … and it is the kontext that makes all the difference.  It truly is not being able to see the forest for the trees.
Maybe call it Kotex or Kuntex …(Whatever, Who cares?) –  CONTEXT IS JUST ANOTHER DISTINCTION (albeit mental) as is munge. It is a higher “level” than an individual sensory object of the physical world, i.e. one within which other distinctions can be held.

Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 07:42:44 [item 20809#51261]
All of your abstract words are mind objects or mental distinctions.
Seth 2016-04-17 07:59:51 [item 20809#51262]

well of course the “words” are just mental or linguistic distinctions.   as is always the case.  just like “Mount Rainier”, they are not a mountain.

but just like there is a real mountains,  there is real kontexts.

it was of the latter which i was pointing out.

Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 08:02:33 [item 20809#51263]
What real context? There is an objective world, but it’s objectiveness is only mental. Others hold the world as just vibrations.  Real is a context. Abstract is NOT real.
Seth 2016-04-17 08:16:38 [item 20809#51265]
“real” here just means it is experienced.   i experience kontexts.  There is an objective world which i experience as not myself ← is that an abstract experience … er, do i just imagine it … perhaps.  A better question is whether i can change it … can i operate on it … do i have  a method to do that: the answer is “yes”.  When i do something (make something happen apart from myself) i add to the kontex which i experience.  Try it yourself,  move to something new … see if your kontext does not change.
Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 08:23:38 [item 20809#51266]
You claim to experience meta?
Seth 2016-04-17 08:25:30 [item 20809#51268]
Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 08:39:01 [item 20809#51270]
Probably got the word experience munged: the abstract with the concrete = one big word pile. laughing

Seth 2016-04-17 08:39:54 [item 20809#51271]
well quite possibly mine are switched with yours.   but descirbe something, … anything ..., and i can honestly tell you whether i can experience it, or just imagine that i experience it.   i experience my thoughts … i experience my emotions ... i experience the things i see, hear, smell, and taste and otherwise sense.

i don’t expeience in that regard what your word “mung” refer to.
tsk tsk ...laughing

Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 08:30:24 [item 20809#51269]
Actually, I did the opposite the other morning – I stayed totally in the physical world – no dialogue no refocus except to make my morning cup of coffee & carry it to my table beside my morning chair & silence without losing myself nor the task at hand. I could call the context “making coffee without words” . cool
Seth 2016-04-17 08:47:40 [item 20809#51274]
the things i do by habit, like making my morning coffee, i do not even need to think about.   but frequently i do anyway just because i like to be aware of what kontext is there any particular morning, since i am studying that morning ceremony.
kewl, enjoy the glow!

Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 08:11:45 [item 20809#51264]
Mt Ranier is more real to you because you probably saw it & sensed it.  Mt. Fuji is more real to me for the same reason. Yours & mine (objective worlds) are different sets ← an algebraic/math distinction  of the real/physical World.
Seth 2016-04-17 08:24:43 [item 20809#51267]
yep totally true.   so what?
Mr. Wallaby 2016-04-17 08:45:27 [item 20809#51272]
So your word-pile is also different. The Tower of Babel is complete (alternate interpretation)

Tower of Babel
Seth 2016-04-17 08:48:28 [item 20809#51275]
why do you focus on the words and not the mountains?
The mountains are not in dispute! laughingponderingcool

Seth says
mark:  kewl, enjoy the glow!

hmmm … what just got inserted into the kontext here?

Mark de LA says
Seth 2016-04-17 08:52:14 [item 20809#51278]
nor need be the words.   they are just signs … make them point to the mountains just as precisely as we can, and then they need not be in dispute either.  keep checking the URLs … shit changes all the time.
Yep – good example of munging away meaning & context into bozotomy .  I’ll get a tuit some day , maybe … you know like this.
