Google Help : Add to Google button

Google has posted instructions on how to to promote your RSS feed by placing an "Add to Google" button to your RSS-enabled website or blog. This will make it easy for people to quickly add your feed right to their Google homepage or Google Reader. Here's what the landing page looks like for my feed. This is all consistent with my earlier thoughts about Google's efforts to further the Long Tail.

Seems to work, gives you headlines only,  yahoo has one of these buttons too.

Dave Winer went on a crusade against Yahoo when they came out with their button some time ago. Somewhere there is a page with dialogue on it about this, but i can't find it now. Winer came up with a proposal for a centralized subscription service and i believe that it is operating somewhere now but i don't have that at my fingertips now. That i don't have that at my fingertips now is, i claim, a failure of my search tools. I, of course, postulate that if i had had fastblogit then, i would be able to point you to that dialogue now. Oh well ...

i favor the approach scoped by Steve Yelvington to use a new URI scheme. This can be seen as part of a larger problem: a web site wants to communicate an event to an unknown client. The local configuration knows what application should process the event, but the web site only know the kind of event. One uri scheme could solve all kinds of probelms. Maybe something like event://name-of-event?parameters-from-server. And, LOL David, i know u don't want to hear this here ... i listened to your podcast ... but then it *is* the best solution ... right?
too bad i guess this is never gonna happen.
