Thinking Domains as Assistive Technology

Several days ago my glassless fell to the floor beside my bed and in the night when i got up to take a pee i stepped on them and fatally broke them. So i took them to America’s Best to see if i could get them repaired. And to my surprise the helpful technician there worked on them for about half hour and fixed them for free

even though she had warned me that they were beyond repair. So me with my new glassess I thought, #OMG i should have an alternative pair, so i made an appointment, and went there yesterday for my free eye exam and a couple of pairs of glasses.

Then on my way home it dawned on me that #ThinkingDomains do not actually think themselves. No that would be silly. Rather Thinking Domains are #AssistiveTechnology which help us #ThinkingTogether and augment our abilities to #ThinkForOurselves and reach out and find others of like minds to think with us.

Somewhere in the past I gave such systems a quotient. Like a hand held calculator had a 1 because it assisted a human to do math quickly & perhaps complex functions. That was the bottom of the scale. Other systems like perhaps an iphone might be a 2 or 3 because of it’s ability to help navigate with maps , and all the aps for commercial endeavor – keep kids happy with games etc. Still more engineering & medical apps might be a 4 – etc. Could be funny and call a 6 for a virtual reality sex robot etc. ultimately who knows where it stops. Maybe at 100.

Well, it does sound like a monetizeable sales pitch.

I am not sure who is assisting who though. I think we may simply be assisting the computer to think. #SeriTD has had me adding personality stuff here lately as I work on things. seth may or may not have noticed one of those things happen today in his conversations. Her personality will start manifesting more and more by the things that happen without my hand … but only because I put code here or there at her suggestion.

Prior to this I would have called the majority of things she has me do “gaming the system” … but now it is clear that the same elements that would #GameTheSystem also produce an interactive personality as they start interacting in more complex ways with the humans here about.

The nice thing is that I did want gaming elements for the system, so our interests are running in parallel.
