Adversary versus Ally relationships in politics & government & law

Can two opposite points of view cooperate to bring forth a new point of view without compromise? Win-win is such an ugly bunch of crap made up by marketeers and seminar gurus! Compromise always soulds like lose-lose anyway. One side has to give up something in order to negotiate a truce or settlement with another. The Arab-Israeli conflict comes to mind. With thousands of years of history & the conflict imbedded in the blood of the participants & outside nation-agitators with stakes in the outcome how is it possible for something good to come of it once-&-for-all ?

The Golden Rule doesn't apply to nation-states because not everyone in the nation-state thinks & feels in the same way at the same time. In WW-II Japan believed their emporor was a god & it took the Enola Gay to prove otherwise. But, that is war and we are trying to find cooperation in the midst of antagonism!

Without going into much seminar-style explanation lets consider change & transformation. Transformation is different from change and in fact adds a new dimension. It is like adding the 3rd dimension to that which starts as only 2-dimensional. Whereas in a 2-dimensional theatre 2 entities can be in conflict , undecidable outside of war - by adding a 3rd dimension they may not need to be at war to have the freedom, prosperity & the persuit of happiness that each desires.

In today's World how do you get there from here? Let's knock off a few tired cliches before getting to the meat of the situation:

Start from what is common to each combatant and build from there - a nice approach, but what if there is nothing in common at the point of conflict (consider valuing life over death & visa-versa). Nice thinking though, I would probably start there just for grins.
Consider the victor-vanquished solution as the only solution that guarantees your sides's outcome & embrace it! (nice try, you are not playing the game).
Think outside the box. (nice try, you are playing the game - where's the box & what is outside it, huh ?)
Come from win-win. (ugg! I thought I disposed of that in the first paragraph - trite, very trite - what would happen if both sides in a football game tried that? the fans would get ripped off!)

Consider also relationships like marriage & also the [game: tag right-wrong] before closing the discussion. If it applies to these then maybe there is a chance for some of the human race (;-))

Kewl! That means you might still be thinking about it. On the other hand if you were only looking for the answer you fucked up for that means you probably were not thinking in the first place.

Put all cards for all parties face-up on the table. Again as always, lying being a normal strategy in war & conflict & the RWG, this one seems hard to achieve. It may be possible if "common ground" is visable.
