fastblogit as a take-action site servicing the long tail

I think there are lots of causes which never happen just because those who would participate cannot find each other. This is the kind of long tail demand that we could specialize in servicing.

I don't have much respect for
* unproductive banter
* social networks where you find people based on their picture,profile, and friends list

(1) What I do have respect for is social interaction which dove tailes into taking action. Example 43things
(2) And having internet tools that facilititate finding those actions to take. Example digg.com

That we have intentional tags is part of our bag of tricks for "taking actions"

i bubbled this 20 year old item up to attention today just because it is part of niche that i realized a long time ago.

interesting how i found it … i just looked at pride and tagged it fastblogit and it appeared in that room. Now that’s what i’m talking about.

There is always G+ which has the circle concept by interest & sometimes #hashtags.

well yes. in fact G+ has most of the capability of interaction that is here now and more.

which is why i am thinking very carefully about how this is different. i already outlined some parts of that in group niche.

well we didn’t used to formally have threads … just comments… but the last comment actually contains all other comments … so yes, if you see a trash can on a thread, you can delete it ...if you do not … then you can’t. of course if you have group pridledges, then you can delete anything in the group.

Yes, this is a new condition because the last version of the thread is being deleted automatically.
I think it should not be allowed.
Once a thread is created it contains comments by many, at the very most, only the thread creator should be allowed to delete it, not just anyone who can comment on it.

… i should have absolute soverignty to delete a thread on my space … in my mind … in my group. that is almost the primary assumption of the model of permissions that are working here now. so if foreigners come and comment and make a thread, i can curate that with impunity.

but ok, talking now about foreigners talking on my blog … can one delete the other’s comments by just deleting the thread … no they should not …. so yes i see your point. not sure how to solve that one in the current model without getting all chiggy on the wiggy.

Political correctness is a useless concept … just something for people to argue about. But it’s twin, social engineering by noticing what moves and affects people, is highly useful.
They are yin and yang. Both play on what triggers people. But one is useful and the other is only noise.

well if you are asking how you can help us get filtering here … you would need to be a developer .. or inspire a developer to write the code. thing is, in this developer marketplace that will hopefully emerge, there might even be profit in it for you.

My interest is mostly in the visual side of stuff. Less words more intuition. So I go for tetrak (like) maps, image maps & pictues & videos etc. organization & arrangement which skips need to follow thread (thoughts, feelings, actions) linearly .

I generally prefer an intelligent canvas rather than a structured newspaper with titles, paragraphs & pictures. The Brain is pretty good but the canvas is only capable of daisy wheel encounters & a list for a tag cloud. I did draw this in the local desktop version but it rearranged when it went to the web:

i’m with you there .. just need to tease it out. the beauty of this platform is that it can become possible to blend and mix visually differentiated items with the flow of more traditional blog dialog.

well this is not a “public place” in the sense you are talking. look at the group header for group fbi … or in this case for group seth ...these groups are to serve the purposes of the group.

so yes, if the purpose of a group (or even a single person) is to seek a certain synergy … and sombody comes along and obstructs that synergy … the best thing they can possible happen is for their obstruction to get deleted.

but i think your comment is talking about actual public places and politics … kind of OT here, however.

I think lots more things should be able to happen at the group level including at least.

Prevent guests commenting on group posts.
Prevent anyone outside from doing anything but reading the group posts.
Make “post secret” optionally the default for creating a group’s posts.
Control what feeds the group posts appear in.
Control what notifications group members see when logged in, like being able to keep the news to only that group’s members so that they can focus.

These can all default to open. But a group should be able to control these things if they desire to.

And my ideal would be meme comments. You have a preselection of meme templates and you just throw the text down and it’s your comment. Wouldn’t require a lot of resources if was done in house because the text could be html over the image and everyone would share the image. You could make your own too, but that would take longer.

Then people could converse in meme’s! I would love it … bet others would too!
