The Rest Of The Story

About: Burningbird

Still, the people were reluctant to embrace this, their old overlord. They remembered the too many years of darkness and confusion and were hesitant to believe in Cane's newfound humility. Desperate to find a hook with which to lure the Small Beings back, Cane looked about and spotted a mob within the masses, a noisy mob that pretended to great power and felt a strange form of kinship with this mob. "These are as like to me as no other", Cane thought. It also noticed that the mob waved a flag above its head, a flag that looked as follows:

"Aha!", it thought to itself. "If I were to wave this flag, too, all my past ills will be forgotten and I will be as beloved as I once was before I abandoned these Small Beings to their fate." So Cane grabbed the flag and waved it most strenuously and cried out its joy in the Cause and its promise of adherence to all that was righteous in the land. And the people looked on from their commune with 864 others of their kind and saw that this was good.

...

It so happened that in the land there was a magnificent bird with burning wings.  Some say that this bird would soar into the sky and flap it's giant wings around Cane's chariot demonstrating its prowess.  the Small Beings on the ground would watch in amazement and wave their flag, which looked like this , shouting the bird's praise.   Then, one day, it came to pass that some asked the bird:  Why, oh magnificent one, do you not wave our icon so that our people will speak with one unified voice.  But the magnificent bird did not answer.  She remained aloof ... the confusions of the the Small Beings did not ruffle her feathers.  Why should she wave this banner, its colors clashed with her wings. So for a while she ignored these orange flags popping out all over the land.

But even without the giant bird's endorsement, the icon flourished in the land. Finally the Small Beings on the ground had something to rely upon. They now knew when they had encountered kindred spirits with information sources where they could feed.  They were no longer confused by the technocrats babble about XML and RSS and all of the mirid versions and formats of feed waters. Yes, the waters were good and the Small Beings drank deep of these feeds.

And then ...

Raj, What I was thinking is that it?d be nice if the (X)HTML spec was modified to include a new tag, to aid auto-discovery. ?. if it was specific enough to include format, ?

I?m glad it doesn?t include a the format. The consuming agent can determine the format. I am of the opinion that publishers should only publish one format. That way a person would never need to choose. I?m sick of seeing zillions of feeds all with the same data and not having any rational reason to pick one over the other.

What we need is a best practices documents for publishers and developers that is just about generic feeds. The different formats are really just like tooth paste brands. They are a distraction.

See feeds,icons for more discussion.

Seth, I agree with you. One format would be very nice. Do you think it?ll ever happen, though? I figure that with technology, there will always be an alternative format. I was simply thinking of something like <feed url=??? format=?rss? version=?2.0″>?</feed> to aid in auto-discovery. Just a thought.

raj, I?m not saying that there ever will be one format, or that such a circumstance would even be desireable. I am saying that, from the feed consumer?s point of view, and from the publisher?s point of view, it really doesn?t matter what feed is published or which feed is consumed. The only faction to which the feed choice is important is the developer; and for him\her it is a nightmare. That is why people should let this format choce fade to the background, hopefully some day to finally dissapear forever. Just talk of feeds and use the new orange button. The rest is confusion, political wrangeling, and techno horse shit.

Can someone tell me were to find the section where Cane was turned of a different skin color as punnishment for the slaying of Able. "THANK'S "
It's not in the Old Testament. It must be an urban legend.
