Still More Silent Thought

As I read an article or a book what happens once my inner voice (Ai - auditory internal) finishes a sentence ?  Sometimes there is just a "grok" - what is the nature of that ? Sometimes I make pictures (Vi - internal visual). Sometimes there are emotions (Ki - kinesthetic internal) and , less frequently there are auditory, gustatory & olfactory internal manifestations.  The most peculiar of these effects are the "grok" without any of the standard NLP descriptions appropriate. google visual internal etc explains the normal internal/external sensory modalities.  Grok on the other hand seems to convey to some layer of my personal consciousness the meaning (semantics) of what I have read, mostly without pictures, language stuff or sound.  This stuff is distinct from that described in 2589 - Reading Between the Lines.

i think the grok happens during ever recognition of a word or phrase not at the end of the sentence. and i think the grok is like an enactment or simulation of your experience of the referent.

Well here is a counter example, your last sentence didn't leave anything there when I finished it. I think that a sentence represents a thought whose properties are put together reading all of the words and considering the syntax etc. (most of this is unconscious). There certainly is a grok at each word, but the sentence completes the semantics.

I find no enactment, pictures or other stuff unless I am reading a description in a novel - emphasis on description.

i would look under mri stdies of the brain while reading.  i think you will find that the centers of the brain that light up during some experience, will also light up when you read a reference to that experience.

Seth says
... also they will light up whenever you think about the experience.

So, in your case, magnetic resonance imageing and all the software that goes with it is evidence of a thought or something else going on in the mind. The question in my mind is the chicken & egg phenomenon discussed elsewhere. Is it the thought leaving a trail? What I am discussing in this series is more of the NLP side of things rather than how it all works. I am interested in all the "silent thought" phenomena - less the chicken & egg question of what makes it work. My view here is phenomenology.

I have noticed in the case of other media besides reading - TV for example - that the "grok" seems to go in without much rational process at all. The grokking almost seems to happen and stir up the feelings without a filter.

I don't think that there are any "rational processess" that go on in the brain.  For me, "rational processes" refer to some normative rule following behavior, like say what happens in the criminal justice system, or say like how a RFC gets accepted, or Roberts Rules of Order.  Nothing like those ever happen inside the brain.  What seems to happen is patterns of behavior are recognized which activate other patterns of behavior etc.

Yes, perhaps - "patterns of behavior" is a wonderful collective just like the word "interesting". I want to pick apart some of that. NLP does a lot in that area, but leave "silent thought" out of the picture.  I want to extend my consciousness into the silent thought compartment. Some of it can become conscious and some of it is not.

Mark de LA says
Consciousness is another thing that is part of the silent thought experience !

I think you will need to start pinning down your terms. By "silent thought" do you mean all sensations excluding those accompanied by a silent voicing in spoken language ?

YES - everything else but the auditory internal linguistic stuff. The linguistic stuff is the subject of rational & irrational processes well described in many places including NLP.  The other stuff has not had a lot of examination IMHO.
