Bringing Chat to the Blogosphere

They have created a very easy to integrate Ajax based chat interface that can be added to every blog post automatically. By simply adding a code snippet into the blog template, a link will be included in every post (think comments, trackbacks, and now chat) to open a chat window where readers can debate and discuss the post.

We may want to implement this code snippit when it comes out next week.

Could be interesting with a fast river, but without one will it show up much different than a comment.

They have a live chat going here.

What's special about that? Is there something different about a chatroom ?

I think the point is that you can put a chat room on a item. The chat then is about the item or people meeting around that item. The chat is better than Who's Here. It would save me from installing my own.

Amyloo wonders what the big deal is about 3Bubbles, so she put up a chat window on her OPML blog. Look ma, no VC. Even if 3B were a new idea, they're blowing the rollout. It should roll through the blogosphere in massive numbers, not trickle out through a few privileged sites. Now everyone has tried it, the CV says it's just like every other chat app you've ever tried (even if it's not) and when they offer it to the unwashed masses (like me) we'll all be ready to yawn in response

I think that having a chat on every item is pretty cool

. But i'm not sure that there is any VC involved and i don't see 3bubbles having a business plan. Whatever they take away from the website, they demotivate the webmaster to utilize their tool. Java chats are not all that high tech to install and the better it is integrated with the site the more useful it is. I really dont think that 3bubbles is thinking about what the webmaster wants.

There is another problem too. As we can see from watching Chat Who's Here, the chances of a person being on the same page are very slim ... especially with low traffic. What is needed is a way to leverage all visitors of the site to the chat ... i'm not sure how to do that yet .. but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ...

unfortunately campfirenow's assertion that you can start in 10 seconds is bogus. you can't even do it today at all. also i am suspicious of the status of this software, if it works as they say, then they should be able to put a chat on their own pages, but they don't.
