visualization of clustering tag rooms

Given that the blue dots are tag rooms, the circles are items,  the lines represent the items being tagged into the rooms; and given a specific physics (defined by a set of rules) to display the blue dots in a screen projection of a N dimensional mouse centered space.

Who has algorithms and running code to display this space from data provided in a sql db ?

The objective of the physical rules of the space is to show blue dots in clusters such that they have tagged items in common.

When the mouse is over a cluster, it displays the tags and shows the titles of the common items in the cluster in a separate frame.

Some of the software at 2421 and 1506 are applicable. This is my favorite, but the graph is constructed by a human - uri http://hypergraph.sourceforge.net/docs.html

One thing that would be pretty nice is a similar picture of the accumulation of nodes you have been navigating as you go along. It would be a representation of your mind and it's train of thoughts within fbi.

Visual thesaurus does that in a way. You plug in a word and it brings out all the nodes that are related to that by synonyms or antonyms. Eventually there are no more words to relate in their scheme.  Unfortunately they are not in open source.

Most of the "hyperbolic" algorithms i have seen make the nodes elastic and allow the mouse to move them aroundThat is not the effect that i am after.  The only thing that should change the spatial relationship of one node to another is a new tagging; not the viewers mouse actions.  You should be able to navigate around the clusters as if they were fixed in space at the time of your viewing.
I suspect that once you have a crowded diagram you will want some hyperbolics. The moving the nodes around is an asset so that you can focus on something (the tag) you want.  It would be helpful to explain more of the hidden "requirements" you are thinking about.  I applaud the search for this because I have been interested for a long time in having something like the Visual Thesaurus to represent a Tag Cloud .

Let me clarify this a bit more:  You navigate around the space with your mouse and therefore you see the nodes relative to your mouse.  That navigation will move the nodes around on the screen; but the nodes are moving relative to you, not each other. Their location in the space relative to each other is fixed by which tags are affixed to which items.

One thing that i specifically don't like about the Visual Thesaurus is the way it spends all that time moving nodes around relitive to each other.  Then it even allows you to drag a node around and the spends a lot of visual time in putting it back.  I think that all of that extraneous and unrelated movement distracts from the actual message in the data.  The nodes are fixed relative to each other.  When you view in that space, you do not change the language space that you are viewing ... no, you can only change that language space changeing the language itself by public use of that language ... same for tagging, you can only change the relationship between tag rooms by actually doing an act of tagging.  I find most of the screen movements in Visual Thesaurus totally distracting.

Well this is close and has some of the behavior that i am looking for.  It still allows the relative location of the nodes to each other to vary.  I'm looking for something that gives the impression of moving through a space of objects which are fixed in relationship to each other.

Kohonen SOM (Self Organizing Maps) might have some bearing of this ... see this page.

Visualizing Del.icio.us Roundup has several examples of visualizing.
yes, too bad I barely use del.icio.us
the same visualizing stratagy would work for fbi taggings too.  also the day is comming where all taggings here will be posted to delicious for the rest of the world to see project to connect our tags to the rest of the tagosphere.

i wonder what the relationship between this item and 2952 is ...
not much... possibly some in the space between but they are 2 diferent ideas.

here is just about the best implementation of this kind of visualization that i have ever seen.  I'd like to see an implementation of this for the facebook graph.
