It's Hard to get Americans to Riot over a Cartoon

In the Article Rumsfield bemoans the US lagging in the propaganda wars in the Middle East. Where in the ME are you going to get a mob of Americans to riot and kill eachother over a cartoon? Americans will march for civil rights or black stuff (Million Man March) etc. Americans will go to a parade such as the Mayday parade against the Viet Nam War - or was that a picnic ? Occasionally they will burn down their ghettos as in the Rodney King Verdic riots in South Central LA and some of the stuff in Watts, DC and other areas - poverty & race! But for a cartoon? Give me a break!

But you do have a point, Muslims are hyper sensitive of their iconage. Me thinks Islam takes itself too seriously. Perhaps the ayatollahs and imams should rethink some of their dogma in terms of how it affects human behavior. I doubt that the true spirit of Islam intends this kind of horse shit.

But I say down with all religion. It is time for the human race to cut it loose.

i'm not defending Farrakhan or his stuff - that is just your diversion of attention from the thrust of my comment. your term "black stuff" grated on my sensitivities when i read it ... it was almost a visceral reaction ... and i would bet that many other people reading it would have a similar reaction. such a usage tells people more about you than you may think. that said, i'm sure i have used terms like that silently when i talk inside my head to myself. but i realize that saying them out loud in public is a political action wich changes the political consciousness of the group in which i am talking. Our language is our culture, is our consciousness. such language puts you squarely outside of the circle of those who identify with, or care about, the causes of afro americans. Yes, i am being politically correct ... which apparently is to be touted as a crime in this group ... but you are being politically insensitive ... but a better term might be "politically illiterate".

When Hillary Clinton was supporting the museum that had eliphant dung splattered on the painting of the Virgin Mary I thought it appropriate to sculpt a bust of her all out of elephant dung, but I ran out of requisite material.
