Ability to see the items commented on by a person in the order of their comments, with most recent first

You would access that "room" via a click on the person anywhere they appear. The URI scheme for this might be:

http://fastblogit.com/comments/group/NAME

... AND/OR ...

http://fastblogit.com/comments/author/NAME

The biggest challenge in creating these rooms is writing the SQL .

and perhaps because the NAME is known while displaying the room, their comments\items could be highlighted

Seth says
The resson for this wish is that i find myself continually scanning more items than necessary to find those items who my "friends" have commented on .. and to find hot dialogue

Mark de LA says
is there an RSS feed on new comments in here somewhere ?

Seth says
good point ... perhaps the feed for every room should have a comments ... /...../feed/comments

Seth says
one thing that i have been thinking about is that here the comments are being treated as an integral part of the item ... that styleing is a bit different than on most blogs .... one could put the comments right along with the item as they show here in the description element of the the rss feed ... prob is that would wrack havoc with determining when the item flows into the streme .... this is a big design decision ... just how separate are the comments from the item itself ? .... if an item is kept private untill the group decides it is to be published, it seems to me that when they publish it, they should decide whether to include the comments in the item or not. Discussion ?

Seth says
This is kind of like /. where each item has a long even threaded multi level discussion. Incidentally how does that work, how do you become member of slashdot such that you determine if an item is published? I never figured that out.

Mark de LA says
comments belong to the item.

Seth says
... err i shudder to make comments threaded under the item ... but what if there were many many people commenting on an item ... is that what forced slashdot to thread and go to multiple levels ?

Seth says
what i would rather have it that the items thread via the about link

Seth says
here i will do it

Seth says
see discussion on complex threading of comments that might ensue under this item

Mark de LA says
i think /. is moderated

Seth says
yes by who? and how do you get into the "moderated" group that decides what shows up on the front door ?

Slashdot Editorial Policy

Mark de LA says
Essentially /. has an editorial board that manages the site . Your story just have to be interesting to them. I think that anyone who registers can post.

Seth says
Thanks for the research, now i know how /. works. This is run by an in group. I think that the same thing can happen here with "goups" ... only it should be clear how to get into the group. Iow there can be many \. run out of the fastblogit space.

Seth says
Let us say a group wants to give \. a run for their money. All they got to do is to make up a tag. Tell people to tag items that they want published in "SlaspPot" with "to SlashPot". Then the group SlaspPot will mine that tagroom to find its articles. When accepted they will republish it under their own group, perhaps as private. Members will work it over and when it is reay publish it.

Mark de LA says
how would one republish without losing the comments ?

Seth says
no way at the moment to republish without loosing comments. perhaps that is a wish list,

unknown says
a lot of this was about
