Announcing: we can talk ming (wiki reference)

Thanks to

for scanning the ming characters. We have a directory of ming characters and can now talk ming. Just put the ming character names, lower case, between square brackets prefixed with the key word "mingchar" and they will be displayed as ming characters.

Note that the original string is preserved on edit, so you can chage the phrase any time you like.

Mouseover will now show the original ming words.

Please note that the dictionary has just one page or two of words in it. I'll modify the wiki references to display the word if the character is not present in the directory when i get that illusive

Here is another example with all the words on the first page .

Note for Breck - double words like boo whang won't come out they will have to be concatenated as one word "boowhang" or when all are there they will be translated as two words. IMHO they should be both : individual separate words and one word together if there exists a verse with the two combined such as "boo whang".

Another thing I noticed is that characters like "bart" have two different characters, so I named them bart.gif & bart1.gif for lack of a better reference. Any ideas how to handle the duplicate words so the ming dictionary still picks them both up?

I'm not sure how much I want to rearrange the ming translator page so that that size character can be displayed. Perhaps on the left (1st column) - still it will make the page much longer.

I would display the whole string of characters right under the input box.

OK, I'll try that when I finish the Spring Palace contents.

So far I have experimented putting it several places with $object = $mingIn & it doesn't seem to come out. Any suggestions ?

Don't know withoug seeing your code, but i would bet that you have not echoed the code into the page ... <div><?php echo $o ?></div> ... the sprintf does not output, just formats a variable.

Well that does come out a little better . It seems to me now that it would have been better to have the ming ming wen in the graphics with the character itself.

The only thing I can think of is put them in a database like the original ming wen. The database allows duplicates. The only thing I am not sure of is getting them back out again. It would also make it easier to add a field for the count of the strokes - hence my idea about a Silver Cradle online with all the characters.
