Apparently the news weather channel here at fastblogit is missing the big storms...

News fronts in group news fronts have the tendency to dissapearing into a private rat hole ...

Consequently i will record one evolving news front here ... perhaps we should issue fixed url's for each front ... that way they can be tracked as they move around

Sorry, haven't finished the group news fronts newcasting yet this morning!  - Got sidetracked on some other items.
But while I am on this subject, I suspect that G.W. Bush believes that freedom is an a right derived from the divine & desires for it to extend to all humanity.  Unfortunately along the way it is necessary to knock a few heads to get the job done; especially if those owning the heads want to take freedom away from you & me!

Mark de LA says
This story must have been a little chick-fart in Washington State somewhere (maybe a backyard in Renton). It does not even appear in the first 17 stories on Google news for the US.

Google news doesn't really try to reflect the people ... rather it reflects the media.   Try memeorandum , guerrillanews, or megite.com and many others ... or not ...

I don't yet know how to classify these websites that you mention. While I am no great fan of BIG media, it is BIG media which has more effect on the psyche of people in the US than small blogs (mine included) & independent outlets by virtue of it's rather large megaphone.  I would prefer to have a well indexed database with a nice search interface where I could pluck out what I want to know about than have the layers upon layers of distortion, deletion & generalization which is the wont of BIG media & is in the very nature of human beings - 1722 supporting it.  I know that I have well placed sources in group UnhackTheBrain who support this database concept. BIG media is also a good place to start until we can get a core of "fair witnesses" a la Stranger in a Strange Land to give us the news in smaller, more accurate & less hyped doses. Do you ever wonder why news is sold as a product & why it is productized the way it is ?

Unnamed sources ... eh ?

The main US news storms of Gas Prices yesterday were enhanced by the hot air of politicians including the president to a cat-4 hurricane. Minor 'nados with the release of a Zarkawai tape & continued rumblings mostly Iranaian- thunder from their bellicose & insane leader trying to find the most bellicose words to threaten the US if the US attacks.

Seth says
... iow there is just one evolving story here ... perhaps it should be titeled [title call for rumsfield to resign] ... Google does not issue such url's, but we could. That sure would make tracking these news fronts more coherant.

Seth says
Also issueing unbiased news front titles and tags, and hense url's, would allow others to coherantly add to the commentary in their own groups ... and we would not be totally at the mercy of the conservitive biases of the news front casters.  This actually would be a service to the blogosphere.  Who knows, perhaps the  would be able to corrolate this with the rest of the blogosphere.

Seth says
actually, carrying this idea further ... thinking out loud here ... issueing a tag when the news front emerges is prolly the best stratagy ... with a little bit of research at delicious and technocrati one could also grok what kind of tag people are already using.  Note how effective bush lied is at technocrati and delicious

Mark de LA says
Mostly what your interested in belongs under group politics.  Rumsfield has gone to old news today barely above room temperature. It will resurrect later on. Rumsfield is in Iraq with Secy. Rice. (or probably moved on).  If you get your news from blogs you will be living in the PAST!
The main purpose of the group news fronts is, as written in the header,
source: ...
This is a chronicle of the media news front. We will treat the news as weather & may even attempt to predict how long a particular storm will last & how much damage it can do to your psyche
I am using the metaphor of the weather because it amuses me & somedays it seems appropriate.  I am NOT attempting to be a Google News nor any other complete news service - just want to get the main topics and see what their half-lifes look like & chronicle how they start & die. I did not make it open because I don't want to rehash the left-right blog arguments that are only too prevalent. I will make it open if I can get enough interest in keeping it within these boundaries. Because I am writing most of it others will have to follow the "If my asshole was a Circus would you go inside?" possibilities - by making comments.
It is quite a burden read the news daily - the news is rarely fun. Somedays I may actually not do it.
If you really want to do Bush-bashing, Iraq, Rumsfield-bashing or Immigration/pro-con linking to blogs or other stuff like that, I invite you to go to group politics

Revised and enlarged constructive comments on performing the purpose of the group news fronts are welcome.

This is a good idea Mostly I was thinking of touching the google number of stories when I first notice a storm coming and maybe later charting the curve as it dies.  I subscribed to Google's feed on the Dubai Ports story & get about 2 per week still from the feed. They are far off topic recently.

Seth says
Thing is these stories move around ... eg now we have this one ... but what was it yesterday ?  But figureing out what the tag is for the story when it first shows up to be tracked will be very useful.  Then we could correlate the news front with Yahoo and Msn news as well as memorandum and technocrati.  In other words name it so that you can talk about it.

Yep, I have watched the rumors for about 2 days. It was waiting to launch when the president announced. I have watched Tony on FoxNews for several years. It is a low pressure area centered in DC, but is waiting for the major media to begin to eat him alive at probably his 2nd or 3rd press conference.
I do like your idea of tags and individual items because that is the easiest way to track a developing storm.

Well for my part i find that making comments against your usual jingoistic conservitive diatribes just ends up in a right-wrong loop ... not something i enjoy.  If i have something to say re a group news fronts item i would much prefer not needing to start with the assumptions of  a biased weather caster ... but i would not mind casting my perls into the same tag room.

Well, that's why I will probably keep it closed & may eventually switch to private. There are many weathermen & weatherbabes - some are unbiassed & boring & some are amusing & frivolous. My style is my style. Standard blog hyperventillation is not this group's purpose. I would invite you again to refer to an item from this group in the group politics (you know how to do it) so that we make keep this one clean of blogma (not to be confused by smegma).

Seth says
i much prefer to post about political topics in group seth and tag them into politics rather than needing to sign into group politics to do essentially the same thing.  if group politics attracks other authors, then my behavior may change.  Point being that i am trying to build a readership for my group ... posting in another group does not necessarily do that.  Usually when i post in another group, it is primarily to keep from cluttering my feed with things that i don't think will interest my loyal readers () .

in case you didnt notice, this is out of context here.
Yep it was out of context for the group where you put it!
Not really ... your news front was about leaks ... and the cartoon is about leaks.
Yep, I recognized that. On the other hand incendiary items are out of context & may better suit your loyal readers in group seth or perhaps the new open group flamewars
