The News Fronts experiment

I think I will suspend my endeavors under group news fronts for a while until I get a grasp on what importance means for a news article. And besides, following the news closer than my natural interests is a depressing occupation; selecting the top few ones which constitute the news-weather front for the day. TV, talk-radio & the blogosphere tend to do just that from their singular & biassed points of view- let them continue or fade away. When I can do it automatically I may resume the idea. It didn't seem to help the purpose of [this: group UnhackTheBrain] which is my primary interest in the news & information domain, anyway. It did reinforce my desire for the following 4 items in the news domain:

A database of news information which is free of spin & has details which are searchable - mostly I would be interested in just the facts & a minimal amount of meaning - I can figure that out myself.
A way to categorize & track news stories (the story line) even as they morph over time. And, what changes over time (like death & injured in a hurricane or money spent).
A chronicle of when a news item first creates a blip on the national radar screen & when it finally leaves.
A profile on a dashboard like UI for the casual subscriber who may not want to go much further than it's safe to ignore the news today.
A redefinition of news
it is not really news that some politician lies about another. It is not really news that the premiere of Iran says nasty things about the US (repeatedly). It is not news that the Democrat Party & the Republican Party are at war with eachother over who gets power. What is news? Is releasing classified information news ? News seems to me to be a meme by which the media control the conversation about to keep you interested in watching, reading & getting your eyeballs. News is a meme about your personal survival.
