& ... what do you think about them ? This is stuff that was planned many weeks ago - far from spontaneous. Had the organizers NOT made an effort to have only American flags available because of the rebuff before Easter of Mexican flags all over the place, there would have been a real suprise! From what I heard, the mexican mayor of LA wasn't even there.

Point is not what i think of these images ... point is that this panarama of white shirted immigrants marching in thoughsands all over the country does have a visual impact on my psyche.  These things are always subjective ... not rational ... and not a topic for flames.   That the march doesn't make you think is kind of sad ... that our government is contemplating making these people felons is sad ... that your mind is set against these people is sad ... but they are fine people and America needs them.

Shelley's picture of blown glass by Chihuly made me think too... first i didn't know what it was ... was it some kind of plant ?  Strange how images impact your psyche.   What images impact your psyche?

Please direct your flames to some other group.

So you probably would run the country by mob rule or the loudest mouth gets his/her/it's way!  The rest of the country which is not that close to the Mexican border didn't nearly get the same response.  I think there is a better way than mobs, however peaceful they seem to the camera & the TV at any particular time.  Some of those in the group were saying that the southern states like California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas actually belong to Mexico.  I guess if there are enought people that break a particular law & can demonstrate peacefully then we as a country should get rid of that law. A country that can't control it's borders is not a country.

Please don't put words in my mouth.  There is a big difference between massess of people expressing their concerns in peaceful demonstrations ... and a mob taking some violent action.

The rest of the country which is not that close to the Mexican border didn't nearly get the same response.
not true ... go look for the pictures in Seattle and NY.

You arguments are all straw man fallacys.  Try responding to what i actually say, rather than what is easy for your to ridicule.

If they are such nice people why do they have to sneak in - mostly under cover of darkness ??

because your government has enacted stupid laws which do not recognize the reality that their labor is in demand in this country.  us law does not provide a legal means ... like guest worker status ... for what is actually happening.   These people are not commiting immoral acts  (except of course for those who do, and they should be punished) ... yet we treat them as criminals.

Last I heard, it's your government too! (Even though your side lost the election!) It's been illegal for many many years to bypass the INS and sneak into the country. Strangely enough your president, G.W. Bush, likes the idea of a guest worker program.

yep ... very strange to find him on the right side of something.  he also said something about investigating oil profiteering ... we all got a chuckel over that one.

Extrapolation of your ideas to their absurd consequences & conclusions is a time honored way of debate.  LA was the biggest demonstration, far dwarfing those in other parts of the country, especially Denver.
To alter laws & the course of a country just because of a large demonstration (or a crowd of people) is to abdicate leadership & the oath of office for the president. It also DISTORTS the wishes of the electorate.  Anyone with sufficient organization & bucks has a larger megaphone to the media than the importance of the issue.  Look what happened in France. Chirac finally backed down on a law that would have helped reduce the 20%+ unemployment just because of several days of demonstrations.  The law was one that said if you are below ~20+ years old you could be layed off for incompetency.  If your are above that age it seems that it is harder to fire an incompetent in France than it is to fire a teacher who belongs to the teacher's union here.  To continue to create a 2nd class of citizens who are paid substantially below what the law requires as minimum wage dishonors the dignity of that group of people. It also subsidizes sweat shops! ... which would probably go out of business if not for the fear that illegals have of the possibility of being deported.  Solve the problem so that everything is within the law !

In January 1932 the British government declared the Congress Party illegal and again arrested Gandhi. The government took extraordinarily repressive measures to crush the demonstrations that followed.

Again you are arguing against a proposition that you propped up yourself ... nobody is saying alter anything just because

But peaceful demonstartions are a righteous mechinism to call proplems into the consciousness of a populus ... There is a long tradition of this stratagy streatching back to Gandhi freeing India from the yoke of British rule.   Perhaps you should consider the world should there be no domonstrations.

I am less persuaded by large demonstrations than reasonable & well thought out arguments & solutions.

You are politically naive at best.  Political change almost never happens from rational argument ... no if does not happen through violence and war, it happens as a struggle for hearts and minds.  Me, i prefer the latter to the former.  Telling a person who is on the shit end of the stick to reason with the government is like telling them to lift a bolder with a thread.

Sorry, I believe in my own rationality. Yours, I'm having doubts about given some of your posts.  Myths (according to Seth: rationality, logic, truth .....) what's next to go ?
