The podcast is one that a fellow OTO member produces which deals with Thelemic culture and magickal topics. The discussion & interviews might center around Thelemic writers, thinkers and interests, or it can focus on various pagan and Thelemic groups from a historical viewpoint. It's interesting stuff, some segments more than others. It ranges depending upon the quality of person they are talking to, obviously. I really enjoy it for the most part and that's why I mentioned it.

He often spoke of the effect of the Letter Practice as creating interesting things to read in the Akashick Records after death.
Indeed
. But then, (
bowing in due respect to the occult mystics amoungst us), this brings up my thesis ... The web is the Akashick Records
. That which you actually do cannot escape it's consequences.

Well, you do have your own mysticism. Not only is the web lo-fi for what's happening, but also it is subject to the e-bomb. One gigantic electronic pulse goes off & nothing is left of your Akashick Records. On the other hand the other one doesn't disappear except for those who can't read it !

occult
1533, "secret, not divulged," from L. occultus "hidden, concealed, secret," pp. of occulere "cover over, conceal," from ob "over" + a verb related to celare "to hide," from PIE base *kel- (see cell).
Meaning "not apprehended by the mind, beyond the range of
understanding" is from 1545. The association with the supernatural
sciences (magic, alchemy, astrology, etc.) dates from 1633.

Mark de LA says
Etymologies of 'occult' aside, if Thelema, which is "Will" in Greek, is mostly bullshit, then you must be talking about particular issues like the use of secrecy to control other's development (just like the RC church has done for millenia). I cannot imagine a world where Willing itself is mostly bs, frankly. Just to clarify that distinction...

Now, if you think the content and programming of the TCtC podcast is mostly bs, then that's a matter of opinion and you're entitled to yours, no problem. After all, the moniker of his show is "occultism without apologies."
Cheers!

Sorry, Breck - have nothing against the Thelemic law "Do what thou Wilt.....". I do have a bit against a good many in the occult community today who pretend to have the Secret of the Universe , but only have a hand full of bs. Here is an example of one of them.

Oh, I agree. There are plenty of self-professed Thelemites who abuse the term and everything that goes with it out there. See 3463 for my impressions of this ilk via my friend Nutz the Squirrel.

The Secret(s) of the Universe isn't so simple to nor is it a commodity that can be monopolized!
Mark de LA says
left out the "that's the meaning of the word occult" in my former bs statement, i.e. occult = secret.

Seth says
i'm interested in the "magical" significance of acting in private (occult) vs acting under view of the public. they are so very different. one goes occult to avoid public consequences. in secret one can say whatever ... the karma is different. is this the reason to have a secret (occult) journal ... to avoid public consequences? ... is the reason to obscure what, if said in the clear, would be flat and uninteresting ? Or is there some other more magical reason to act in private? What did AC say about writing a journal? What was the Lieber of that? I'm just looking to see if there is some wisdome there that can be brought into the current blogosphere. I mean i know there is a virtue in keeping a journal because i can feel it's effect on my life ... same thing with tagging the journal. Was AC after the same thing?
Mark de LA says
It probably has alot to do with the medium being there. If blogging is available, then it is what those online will use. I also keep a hand-written private journal in addition to the things I care to type into a blog. Some folks do treat their blog entries as some type of magickal journal perhaps, but as to what the distinction between public & private in blogging is and how significant the perception is I don't know for sure. I think it has alot to do with the openness & immediacy of the medium itself and how folks perceive its usefuleness for their particular ends. I think blogging is cool when I find the time to do it!

John St. John is one example that AC used for instructing his students in how to keep a magickal journal. Yuo might even look at CFR's early 'Rock Diary' as an attempt at this same type of recording a 'magical retirement' for a specific purpose or ritual.

Tagging is something that livejournal has introduced over the last year and it is very handy for organizing topics as you know. I think there's some real potential there if bloggers use it with enough discipline and focused idea of what the journal entry is "about", which isn't always that easy to categorize mebbe.
Seth says
one wonders if there are any of CFR's journals in his papers.

Mark de LA says
Well his rock journal has been around - someone typed it. I suspect AC or someone there collected the original in his handwriting. Most of the rest of what he did is in the Tai Shu & preliminary drawings. I ran into another bunch of his drawings in a box yesterday & will try to find one that is representative & post it. It's funny, but I don't think that, considering the amount of self-expression in the name of the great work, that he had the need to keep a private journal.
Mark de LA says
In a way the LP is like a journal. With LP you are writing a line from the Yi King appropriate for the day & you focuse on whatever questions you have during that time as well as the meaning of the line itself is a journal. In GW's case he also published to his group one of those each week. He often spoke of the effect of the Letter Practice as creating interesting things to read in the Akashick Records after death.

So, is that a
or
? Just curious what you & M think about the idea of me doing a short podcast in this venue about CFR & the CFR website?

I think it is a great idea
. You may, or may not, have problems uploading long podcasts ... if you do, then we can arrange alternate methods for your file transmissions ... or you can host the actual mp3 file anywhere and just hyperlink from here. I did enjoy the Thelema Podcast ... it allowed me to tune into OTO goings on that i was not aware of and got me thinking about some magick which has been burried im my psyche for a long time. I am very much into magick and making change through non-convential means ... i am just very turned off by all of the "dead-dogma" that seems to always surround it.

According to the podcast's producer, John Crow, the CFR piece is now slated for episode #29 due out around early-to-mid July. He's editing the raw audio now for the final version.

Well, he will probably send it out in the next few days ( I gave the goahead when they published a different podcast than I expected). If necessary I'm sure he is willing to send it out a second time & maybe refer to the podcast in the newsletter.

Personally, I think it's a good thing that Ben's newsletter/offerings come out a week or so before the podcast. That way it is already in place -as opposed to the alternative of having to wait for its arrival after the segment has aired. So, no worries. I think it will work out just about right in the end.
