The Practice of Magik

I don't think that there is any doubt that there are archetypal situations.  Nor is there any doubt that we can recognize when we are participating in these situations.  But i have some problems with the classical way this is practiced in  divination:

(1) My first problem with practicing divination is the assumption that these situations are given-from some mystical plane and recognized-by chance in the physical plane.  You might anticipate that i would have a problem there since i don't recognize such a separation of planes.  But this item is not about the separation of planes, so let us not get side tracked.

(2) My second problem with practicing divination is that the situations are given as generalizations.  The Yi has 64 generalized situations and a Tarot deck 78 cards.  By practice one learns how these generalized archetypal situations apply to one's  subjective life.  This works but is a long slow process.  What's more, there is this assumption that, for example Hex 2 is, in some manner, the same for everyone.  But each of our subjective lives are so different that this cannot be the case.

I have been toying with turning this practice around and doing it from the opposite direction.  Instead of starting with generalized archetypal situations given from some mystical plane and selected by chance in the physical plane ... start with the actual situations that are recognized in one's subjective life.   Make a deck of these and work out  how these situations can change.

You know inevitably this is going to be a google finite state machine ... so that you end up recoginizing nodes and trnsition arrows.

I'll let you know, if and when, i get some cards in my deck.

Well magik is defined here, but not in the dictionary, so I don't see what you want to practice.  I don't think you understand divination as GW defined it. The stuff at the bottom of BC gives a good clue as does all the abundance of his comments on the individual lines.  The Tarot seems to be more of a meditation doorway for me anyway. I look at both as a communications tool to other beings who are interested in human evolution in the Cosmos. I also use it to see what forces are at play in the current situation. I never found it good for the standard fortune telling purposes. (PS when in college it never could predict when I would get laid!).
Anyway I applaud your making your own Tarot cards or whatever.  I don't see how you can improve on the YI given that it starts out with the yin and yang of it all and then redivides till you get 6 divisions.  Maybe you will find a tertiary or other way to classify your instances. Yin, Yang or Maybe ?

I used the term google magik to distinguish the practice from google magic ... there is no significance to my choice other than the different pattern of usage that you can see at Google.  If you have a better choice of term, then please do suggest away.

I'm not really concerned with the way GW defined "divination",  but if you have it handy, then please do inform the dialogue with it.  I am  more concerned with the way it was practiced  it in our family and also the way it is practiced in occult societies.  My approach here is to get at some of that same wisdom from a fresh direction.   First I must cut away some of the premises that  have, in the past, turned me away from this path.  Just reinforcing those premises will be a non-starter for any useful dialogue about this item.

The classification of the deck is not my primary concern.  But to make the assumption out of the gate that it has a regular structure does not seem to be a wise course.  First of all, why should the deck be touted as complete ... why shouldn't it be open ended?

source: M about aggregation ... sorry i inadvertaintly deleted this
Certainly there will be aggregation ... the point is to recognize behavior patterns and name them ... also to recognize transitions between behaviors and name those as well.

You stated that you had problems in 1 & 2. Some of your problems are because you may be misinformed. I don't have these problems. I still applaud your doing whatever you are trying to do however you are trying to do it.

This is pretty much a non-starter.  (#1) is substantually the monistic/dualistic and i don't want this item to degenerate into a debate on that.  (#2) is the premis that the message does not get lost in translation.  My thesis is that mystical knowledge is not transferable ... it cannot be written down, and then read by someone else and they get the same meaning.   That is the premis that underlays all  of this mystical teachings.  And that is the  premis that i do not accept.   My approach is to bypass that problem by starting with my own subjective patterns that i know well.
