Invasion Of Privacy At Fastblogit

About: School district to monitor student blogs

Let us look at how privacy and it's invasion works here at fastblogit.

First if you post an item without clicking it private, then it will flow to the river and into the feeds and anyone in the world can see it.  If there are any consequences that follow from that posting it cannot be interperted as an invasion of privacy.  You made your posting public, and must accept responsibility for it.

On the other hand if you click private, then only those people who know the password for your group have access to it.  If someone by hook or crook gains access to that item without it being the intention of the group, then they have invaded the privacy of your group.  You have this expectation of privacy in your group.  That is clear and i believe it would stand up in a court of law.

source: Associate Superintendent Prentiss Lea (from about link above)
"The concept that searching a blog site is an invasion of privacy is almost an oxymoron," he said. "It is called the World Wide Web."
So the criteria is not just, "is it on the web" ... rather it is "is it public on the web".

The will not disclose the password to any agency without a legal court order.

BTW, you should disclose that the comments on a private item cannot be made private and are disclosed to the public via the news feature button.

Yes that is a ... also that the passwords are not encrypted in the db is a

We are dealing here in this item only with the legal politics of privacy at fastblogit.  I don't believe that they have a privacy click at myspace.com.  I believe that to see things there you must be a member of myspace and\or be accepted as a friend of the person involved.  I'm not sure exactly how it works.  Most bloging services don't even have any mechinism to keep things private.  One wonders how this would play out, should we come under the scrutany of the authorities.

BTW, you are entitled to as much privacy as money can buy lawyers ! Get over it - it's the Internet.

sorry, mispoke on the river.  For those concerned with privacy - thought they should know.
The difference between rhetoric and action is that someone who is really concerned would go fix it ... see my recent comment on 1836 re map vs territory.
Bandler in his NLP fundamentals has been talking about the "map vs territory" as a fundamental premise for years (I encountered it in ~1988) - not new shit!
I am not currently fixing things in fbi - 2 people working on the same chaos is not a good idea. I was not identifying bugs just identifying current behavior or concern to anyone interested in fbi & private items.

Also the title of a private item is not private & shows up in the common river. Any tags are also public.
Titles of private items do not show up in the river.  They do show up in news.  There is no concept yet of a private tag nor do we need one here. This is the same bug reported above and in 1671.  Basically the news program needs to be reworked.
