Can bloggers really pick up the slack

About: signonsandiego.com > news > business -- about 170 washington post staff take buyouts

I wonder as mainstream media begins to fail will bloggers & citizen journalists really be able to pick up the slack? I doubt it! Very few, if any, of the blogosphere write their own material. Are people who are involved with ordinary life those who have an eye for news. If they have an eye for news & involved in ordinary life will they stop & blog about it ?
