Actually you should go see the site itself it is more interesting.  It also has countdown clocks for the cost to the economy of the Kyoto Protocol and the cost of Malaria (probably due to the DDT ban) as well.  The countdown clocks don't copy here.

Mark de LA says
The "Another Countdown Clock" is the one where Algore refuses to debate his so-called science!

Perhaps this is the best item to post Bush's Press Conference on Global Warming

I think bush-bashing belongs more on one of your own items - say one promoting your opinions or Algore.  I disagree that Will Farrel is the best imitator. I think the guy that does it for Jay Leno is much more authentic & funny.
This comment and the one it refers to could self-destruct in 30 minutes if I played the 's games.

One good thing about fastblogit is that you are free to make up your own rules in your own group .   People should not get pushed out of shape when they are edited when that are out of context of the group.  It is part of the fastblogit process.

I take your item above as humor, globalwarming ... really that is the only way i can read it and i have read it ... but you keep highlighting it so apparently you read that clock differently.  Perhaps you could read your own reference with a more critical eye ... pherhaps not ... perhaps you could express why you think it is at all serious ... perhaps not.  Do you even have the will to contribute to a real focus ... not that i can tell ... oh well ....

But hey, bro, thanks for your contributions in any case .

Since February 16, 2005,
the Kyoto Protocol has cost US$ 199,480,203,500
Is just a flat untruth.  I cost us nothing, primarialy because we havent taken it seriously.  Had we taken it seriously, and taking his calculations on faith, it presents a distorted picture.  To be balanced about it you would need to subtract from that figure the GNP that was contributed by the industrys that would have needed to be spring up.
while potentially saving an
undetectable 0.002068684

Actually the reason I brought up the clock again was for the Kyoto Protocol parts of it & the clock for Malaria.  The Kyoto protocol clock, if you bother to delve into it, shows how much we could spend & virtually get nothing for it. I first copied the text of just the Kyoto countdown but our site nutered the javascript underneath & it was not readable. Therefore I just took a screen-scrape of the whole thing. Enjoy!
& one more thing...
source: ... Update August 22, 2005: Our cost estimate is extremely conservative - see: "Cost of ending global warming 'too high'" - "BRINGING global warming to an end would cost almost half global GDP -

Mark de LA says
There you go again shooting from the hip with your "untruth"/liar stuff. Here is a supportive graph. The countdown clock is rearranging this same information and taking the projected cost and averaging it out over the years between 2/16/2005 & the year 2050.  I like the countdown clock better than this graph

Mark de LA says
BTW, that was one of your IPCC graphs above!

Like i said ... you need to subtract from the graph the GNP for industries that would need to spring up to make the change possible.  There is no doubt that taking Kyoto seriously would cause massive changes in our economy.  But the American entrapeneural spirit is not stupid ... millions of jobs and niches would be created.  Even if the goals are not valid ... the change would be

Seth says
... of course if your primary motivation is making profits off of the dying ill fated oil industry, you had best take that graph very seriously indeed.

Mark de LA says
Still seems like a huge cost for a boondoggle! Why not focus on creating new forms of harnessing energy & trying to discover new ones. And, keep the government out of things it is horrible at doing.

Seth says
Keeping the government out of it is a .  But there needs to be some force applied to the economy.  Where that force comes from is perhasp less important than the fact of it's application.  Inevitably the force will come from skyrocketing gas prices.  But government can make changes by leading ... it can soften the blow of the inevitable physics that is befalling us ... right now our government is leading us in the wrong direction.

Mark de LA says
I believe in free enterprise! When the price of gas reaches levels that make other enterprises profitable they will emerge! That doesn't mean that they should raise taxes on it. All the taxes do is preserve incumbency.  Already hybrids are getting more interesting to some.
Just what is the wrong direction your politics says the government is going ?

Well one example of a politician leading our courntry in the right direction was when Jimmy Carter escalated getting off our oil addiction to a national priority and then he ended the shameful subsidy of big oil by American taxpayers.  I remember that era ... that was when i first became aware that there was even a problem ... that oil was not an unlimited resource ... and that awareness can be directly attributed to Jimmy Carter's efforts.  Now i'm no fan of the nanny state, but when it rewards the wrong direction it should at least be curbed.

Look at oil from the Gaia perspective ... form the leviathan perspective.  Oil has been like the yolk of an egg for the industrialization of the world.  But a yolk inevitably runs out.  If the organism has not learned to survive without the yolk by the time it runs out ... well the organism dies.  And that is exactly what will happen to your precious industrial complex.  Wise political leadersthip can soften the blow ... can see it comming ... can come to grips with this invonvient truth before it hits us.

Mark de LA says
I guess you forgot the long gas lines & the 20% interest rates Jimmy Carter, the most failed presidency of the modern era.

i guess you know that there is no end to lobbing that kind of shit ... i going to peg that kind of lob as a ... that kind of lob is a in our political process.

Mark de LA says
I'm sorry, but to associate Jimmy Carter with anything to do with oil just brings up bad memories. I had to bicycle to work .
