Dueling Blogs

About: okcupid! the opinions are like assholes test

IMHO Dueling blogs supporting opposite opinions based on published articles & study groups such as IPCC & NAS are not likely to ever arrive at the truth. It just creates a little bit more volume to the multimedia megaphone. Maybe a nuance will show up here & there when someone actually comes up with an original perspective, or maybe evven a whole idea, but that's only about 1% of the cacophony & dissonance that fills up the daily bad news that is the major media and the blogosphere. Sad to say, but that continues to support the often quoted saying:
source: ... Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one! (anonymous)
Maybe a lemma of Bozo's idea that there is no truth except in the context of society & upbringing (or words to that effect) - is:

source: ... There is only OPINION
...

  ... take the test!

Hmmm...I may just abandon Science altogether & go for opinion instead!

Note that we are not just dealing with dueling blogs here ... though in some cases we need to go through those to find the actual scientific debate.  So far i have found that Peter Norvig, whom i respect as a scientist with demonstrable accomplishments, experiment to be to be the most infromative. He does say that: "I support Science in rejecting Peiser's letter on the grounds that it is a poorly-executed experiment."  and then goes on to make his own study and ends up supporting Oreskes's claim that 0% rejected the consensus.  That was the claim that Gore made such a big deal of in the movie.  For me, that is getting closer to the truth of the matter.

Well I got an 81 - something like Einstein, but still not perfect enough for tester ... I don't remember the obscenities I think there was some. Anyway ... still into dueling blogs & studies. With truth in the context of your group you are still missing the water you are swimming in. BTW, back on the truth shit - what are you looking for when you use the T-word ?

Mark de LA says
To get closer to something I could label with the T-word, I would have to get hold of the original data & how it was collected & make up my own mind.  Too much work!

Say, where can I get one of those pot-breathers ?  Maybe we can invent one for the other end too!

All the original data has been pointed to in 3848 and Norvig tells you how to retrieve it yourself should you dispute the search criteria.  Saying it is too much work and prefering to rubber ducker is, although expected, not at all useful.  But whatever, bro, have yourself a good time.

Hey, check out his tool 10,000 audio player ... that's the cleanest, slickest I have seen for inline play.

Pointers are not original data.  That study is just one of millions of pieces of information & data points in the global warming discussion. Because I am not into the crisis thought cabal on this one does not mean that I prefer "rubber ducker". I am a selective-spender here as well (in this case eyeballs & attention) & am just about running out of time & attention on this one ... there is no light at the end of this tunnel - no cheese at the end of the maze. I may rejoin the discussion a later time if the politics begins to cost me $$ or injure my freedom.

Whether you or I declare it partisan or not - it IS political.  Once actions are required that requires people and $$$ - that's political and partisan. Why do you think that cigarettes & tobacco have not been outlawed completely - can't blame it all on BIG Tobacco. The government has raped that industry a great number of years for money which they are not even blowing on anti-tobacco education and PSAs . It is exactly because they get money from taxes and lawsuits that it is NOT illegal yet. In fact it has served as a model for other industries like fastfood, SUVs, dope etc. First demonize the industry. Second tax it increasingly but never outlaw it. Third sue it until you get as much as you can since the public will really not put up with raising taxes.  etc.  If tobacco were really as bad as has been expressed (especially in the courts) then we should ban it forever!  Next it looks like the gas & car industry is in for some shit.

*FYI, I have no stake in tobacco - I quit years ago.

This kind of comment goes better on this node, so i moved it here.

Btw, since we are looking for industries for the government to invade, Colbert had an idea that i think should be investigated ... audio track only ... listen to Monkey Butter
