Partial Birth Abortion

I found this lady standing alone outside the Valley Medical Center on the 4th of July.  She stood there all afternoon.  She is just against killing babies.

She got me thinking about "partual birth abortion" where there is no medical reason and where the baby could have been delivered alive  (note how carefully i qualifiy the situation).  I want to ask the question:  Why was this particular procedure performed?  Now i will bet that there is a lot of rhetoric in the medical journals and in the law journals providing rationalizations ... and i will bet that if you ask your average joe on the street why this particular procedure is  performed you will get answers all over the spectrum.  But to me the answer is clear:  If the baby was born alive, very fue doctors would be able to bring themselves to kill it.  They would immediatly understand that they were commiting murder.  Consequently it is required of their profession and of their culture that the reasons for the procedure be masked in confusion.

The baby giblets in the lady's sign could not have been born alive.  For the record, i am pro choice.   But I am against confusion.  And i am against murder.

Yep, this is what you get when you are so afraid of any impediment to abortion that you must allow it up to the last second. I don't know whether it is true, it would be hard to search but I have heard of two cases which emphasize the absurd.  One in which the doctor slipped during the procedure and the baby was accidently born & the doctor was sued for malpractice. And another case where the doctor shoved the kid's head back in the mother & performed the abortion anyway.
The abortion side can't loose that's why they will do anything to permit it at the last second.
I don't think that abortion is any government's business.  On the other hand IMHO it is still wrong at any stange - it's just more obvious how wrong it is at the latter stages.

Clearly a sperm is not a baby & never will without an egg - otherwise teenage boys would have more guilt than they need due to masturbatory habits.   I have many cells in my body which sluff-off each day & die. The morning after pill supposedly prevents the egg from implanting in the uterus, etc.  That would probably be a good place to draw the line. Some say there are very harmful side effects - look them up!  Of course the only sure method is NOT to fuck!  Our society recognizes various degrees of murder: intentional-planned, self-defense, insane, negligent homicide, infanticide, manslaughter, wrongful death, car wrecks, war etc. Maybe a new class should be invented for prematurely terminating a pregnancy - maybe 9 degrees of it having varying degrees of punishment. This has gotten so silly that a woman can have an abortion in mid-term & nothing is said. But, if someone kills her that someone is now responsible for 2 deaths (murders or otherwise).
I am for prosecuting murderers but only isolating them from society not execution.  As a matter of fact I believe they should all be put together (but not with non murderers) so that they can have a positive influence upon each other & maybe transform  themselves.

Good find - good reporting.  You could have stopped & interviewed her & made it a great find.

Actually i did.  I goofed up on the camera and didn't press the button right. But even had i gotten the interview on footage, i probably would not have published it.  I simply did not like the traces it left in my memory.  When i put the camera down and talked to the lady the interaction was more productive.  This interviewing takes a bit of practice ... it's not as easy as it looks. What i put in my piece and what you see in the picture itself is the story.

Seth says
Yep it's a slippery slope.  The other end of the slope is the morning after pill.  Or is that the other end?    It's alive when it comes out of the dick, and it was alive before it came out the tube when the girl started responding to caresses.  It's life all the way down.  I agree with you, it is not the business of the government.  But we do ask the government to prosecute murder.  From where i stand the criteria "Can it live outside the mother's womb" seems to be the most practical dividing line that the government can adopt.  Is that not what we have now?  Partual birth abortion seems to me to be clearly on the criminal side of that line.

Mark de LA says
The reason that partial-birth abortion is legal is that the pro choice crowd believes in the slippery-slope theory & therefore will not allow any abortion to be banned. Apparently lawyers can't write a law yet that bans it but allows for the health of the mother etc.

2524 elaborates on my walled-city idea of dealing with murder.
It's worth a try. If I were to think that I would be isolated for life in a city of nothing but murders I might think twice about what I am doing. The more isolated the better.
On the other hand, some places in south-central LA & elsewhere might not be much different than that.

Seth says
Yes clearly a sperm is not a baby.  I just mentioned that to emphasize just how steep this slippery slope is.  Once you start down it ... where do you stop?  I believe the Catholic Church stops at conception (i believe).  That is another logical, perhaps even practical, place to stop.  But is it a practical place given the social behavior of youngsters?  These points move according to changing culture, they are not cast in any moral rock.  Currently, i believe that "ability to live outside the mother" is where our society has this point now.  I just think we should be consistent with that.  These are not easy decisions and i certainly have not, thank god, had to think deeply on the matter ... there are many others who could better inform this debate than I.   All i wanted to do was to blog what i wold call an inconsistency in the current abortion laws. Clinton vetoed the ban of partual birth, i would not have vetoed it.

I know that abortion is murder. In the above picture the baby was ripped apart in the mothers womb and then pulled out. So, I think that constitues as murder. Whether is baby is inside or outside the womb it is alive! Once sperm meets egg it is life. This baby in the picture above was alive until some pro life fool killed it. I mean, do you actually think that the abortionist is not a murderer? Give me a break, he took a life, thus committing murder. What constitutes murder these days? Think about this the doctor goes through all of the trouble to turn the infant around into the breech postion, just so that the head does not come out, because if it does it's murder. Guess what people no matter which way the baby comes out it's still alive and your still killing out. For the pro choice women out there if your so concerned about your bodies CLOSE YOUR LEGS! don't have any babies if your just getting pregnant to kill them. My sympathies to those who were raped but, that doesn't make the child any less alive or real and I know that you did not ask for it but, neither did the baby that your carrying.

Hey I was just typing random things on google.. and I went to the abortion section. This is sick! Infact it makes me so sad and mad to see someone kill a little inocent baby, who can't even speak for himself. I think If scientist really wanted to do an experamint, they should do it on themselves and see how it feels. This world is really corupt, but justice will come one day. God is good. We just need to pray for our country. I'm also a Christian and adoption should always be the choice people would rather pick. If your thinking about abortion.. please don't be selfish :-( Choose adoption*

Above, you mentioned the word fetus (or foetus) therefore I assumed it was before birth but after conception.

Today the supreme court ruled that the 2003 law banning partual birth abortions is constitutional. But the devil is in the details ... me thinks that the criteria should be whether the featus can survive outside of the womb, i'm not sure that the court or the congress has drawn the same line.
I've already given my thoughts on abortion elsewhere.  It's none of the government's business.  OTOH, if your criteria were adopted it may butt heads with science & medicine in that some form of the fetus can survive outside the womb for a long time. Fertility clinics currently preserve fertilized embryos outside the womb for many years. At ~ 22? (maybe less) weeks a premature baby can survive.  So therefore that is that grey area between a embryo & 22 weeks which is a gap which science & medicine will narrow in the future to maybe zero. At that point, your criteria will be moot & no abortion would be allowed.

Well obviously i am not just talking about "some form" of the featus, but rather a "functioning human being".   Also i am not at all sure that this is a practical line to draw as M opines above. But i would draw the line there based purely on moral grounds.  If a doctor kills a baby outside the mother's womb who would otherwise survive, that is murder.  If i were a doctor that would be a line that i would not cross.

Above, you mentioned the word fetus (or foetus) therefore I assumed it was before birth but after conception.
This is not a semantic argument it is a ethical one.  If it is born alive ("bron" being any part of it is outside of the mother), then i call it a baby. if you carefully take a 5 week old featus outside of the mother it will die.  Now take the proposition "if you carefully take a X week old featus outside of the mother it will die" and extend the value of X untill the proposition is false.  At the point that the proposition becomes false you have commited murder.

Mark de LA says
You should probably engage the spell-checker  A baby can be taken out of the womb at full term & if not provided the nutrients & care will die.  A fetus taken from the womb prior to term can be incubated & cared for & may survive. A fetus taken from the womb prior to term and not cared for will die. Your discrimminator still doesn't work.
