Aljazera is a source of Middle East news from the point of view of those living in that region. Here, this morning, we learned that  Mahmood Ahmadinejad the president of Iran has started blogging.  Now that is not something that you hear about on CNN.   Here is the first thing he says on his blog ...
source: Mahmood Ahmadinejad's Blog in English
Oh Almighty God, please, we beg you to send us our Guardian- who You have promised us- soon and appoint us as His close companions.
... kind of ominous, huh?

Here is an op-ed piece that asserts that the Western journalists claims that the Sunni/Shia hostilities are paramont to problems in the region are "baseless".  And that the real division is between the kings and dictators of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt on the one side; and on the other side "Iranians, Hamas, and Hezbollah, all of whom were brought to power through an electoral process".  There might be some truthiness there to many people in the Middle East.  This, of course, would not be a view point that you would read in the National Review.

Why do i read this stuff?  Well which views more consisetntly obtains for most of the people in the Middle East  is input to predictions like whether Sunni Muslims will join with Shia Muslims to fight against Israel and the West.

Actually, it is an even more humorous word because it looks like a contraction of the words truth, thin & ness i.e. truth-thinness
Well i don't get the "thin" out of it ... me thinks that is your projections.  Have others seen this "thin" in the word?

Truth, from one perspective, is a signal in the brain.  It fires when there are suffient matches between current beliefs and some new proposition.   That is, of course, an over simplification of a vastly more complicated neurological process.  But it seems to me that to "know something intuitively, instinctively, or from the gut without regard to evidence, logic, or intellectual examination" is a pretty good description of when that signal is likely to occur.

Hmmm...  just parse the word tru.thin.ess   it's in there - I don't need a second opinion.  I can conclude on my own that something that is truthiness is thin on truth!
"ness" requires a "n" and "thin" requires an "n" too.  "ess" is not legit suffix.  Me thinks this parse is a thing of your own construction.  But, of course, you can conclude whatever you like ... nobody is responsible for your signals of truthiness but you yourself.

PS. I just edited my sentence that uses "truthiness" to make more precise and less ambiguous.

BTW, the book Blink previously mentioned in 4150 is about those first few seconds of intuition. On the other hand you would have to be an impeccable resource to communicate that to someone else.

Mark de LA says
The other aspect of intuition is that you will find it nearly impossible to pass on to another directly. It is like your answer to the question "Who am I?" .

Yes, me thinks the "signal" to which i refer is the self same thing you refer to as " first few seconds of intuition".   One thing that i have noticed about it, is that it is very difficult to exactly replicate.  Subsequent occurances of that same "truthiness signal" seem like copies and usually do not have as much emotional impact.
Yep, that is what zen people call the volcano-effect

That's why I used the word contraction when I first exposed the hidden meaning !
What's the difference between a "hidden meaning" and a "imagined meaning" ?

BTW, I listened to Colbert's explanation of what truthiness was on 60 minutes last night, did you ? (Seth)

Yep !  In fact i have found that the more intens the truth signal, the less likely you will be able to communicate it.

No ... so what?  I have been exposed to this word before and know how to use it just like everybody else is using it.  Certainly i have put my own spin on it here.  Those you who believe that there is "absolute truth" apart from social transaction will understand this "truthiness" concept quite differently than my spin.  Your sticking "thin" in there shows us that.  I am sure that you will find many people who will agree with you that the "thin" is part of the concept.

I guess the part in the Wikipedia which said:
source: ... Truthiness is a satirical term coined by Stephen Colbert
... Last night he used it to poke fun at Bush, that's all .
