What is the purpose of Item 4336 ?
About: about: taliban sign peace pact
To introduce this question I first introduce the purpose of this group.
This project is dedicated to the possibility of injecting the finest sense of TRUTH into the process that gives us what comes out of the Media Megaphone & to instill consciousness in it's listeners where now lies hypnosis
I found the following properties of 4336 curious:
I can respect, appreciate & disagree (or not) with Seth's motives & free speech rights to express anything he likes in his blog. I even know that he will take "in your face" positions at times just to stress & stretch his original thinking prowess for effect. I can't buy though that anything new in the way of unbiassed news is going on here. (As a matter of fact there is no news here at all - just a link farm with commentary & analysis.)

- source: Do you still think that things are still going swimmingly?...The Ann Coulter quote (real or simulated out of context) turns the item into a political agenda item instead of an information item.
- The extra importance of the item over it's news value. source: I will bet that there are quite a number of people in state department and in the Bush administration who are having an "oh shit" moment just about now.In the very beginning of the Afgan war Musharraf had political problems with the so-called tribal areas. Then for a while he let the US into them and now he is getting blowback & his army is not doing well. Not really an "oh shit" moment.
- The truce can be interpreted in many ways not the least of which president Musharraf wants control of the whole country. Is this a Lebanon type moment or more of a political moment. One wonders about the terms of the truce given by:
source: According to an anonymous intelligence source, the terms of the truce includes:... - The mock horror that it was not YET covered in CNN or other "major" news outlets. (so what? - did we have a conspiracy going on there?)
- The purpose for including this news item at all seems to be to create an "oh shit" moment for anyone who wants Afganistan to be stable. Bad news for Afganistan & Iraq is good news for the Democrats & left-wing liberals.

Your right, ill remove it.

The mock horror that it was not YET covered in CNN or other "major"
news outlets. (so what? - did we have a conspiracy going on there?)
"Mock horror" is not what i expressed and is yet another straw man. I merely noted that CNN was not covering the story at the time that is was being covered in many other places. As far as i can tell that observation was factual. That is was subsequently covered with a different spin later does not change the coverage it got on Tuesday. Here is what i actually said ...

Can anyone find this story covered on CNN ? Can anyone explain why it is headline news in India and the Arab world, but ignored by mainstream US media?

Come on, be honest, where do you get "mock horror" out of that ... where do you get "conspiracy" out of that?

I fail to see how giving up control (note the specific terms of the truce) can be interperted as wanting to "control of the whole country". Also note that there have been a number of places which quoted various different texts of the truce, most of them agree on the salient points.

That was a bet and one that i still stand behind. If we had access to State Department and Administration memos, my bet is that i would be vindicated.

Not really an "oh shit" moment.
Your first two sentnces here are approximately true and commonly know. But they do not inform the "oh shit" moment that i am betting happened at the State Department. Perhaps if you put your self in the position of a person trying to fight terrorism in the region and wanting to go after training camps in the

Now to answer your question :
What is the purpose of Item 4336 ?
Eliminating terrorists and the environments in which they breed has been the number one priority of US foreign policy since 911 ... and rightly so. George Bush and his administration is touting Iraq and Iran as the battleground in the fight (lots of quotes available upon request). To some extent the US mainstream media is picking stories that support that view. I happen to think that this view is a bit of a distraction from an effective campaign against terrorism. I wrote 4336 to point to an example of where a US fight against terror might better place its attention.
