Flushgov.net - Part II - RESPECT My Vote

About: tagroom of items tagged with flushgov.net

When you send 8x10 glossy negative material about your opponents to my home you do not respect my vote. As a matter of fact, you are telling me that you are wasting money - you are a person who when in office would waste my tax dollars for your own political purpose.
When you waste dollars on prerecorded phone calls to spread negative material (or any material) you disrespect my time. I automatically hang up! Somehow you think I've got nothing to do except listen to your prerecorded BS ?
Again, when your TV advertisements are negative, coy, say nothing about your points of view or what & who you are I flip the channel - another waste of money & time. What a joke!
All these things dishonor your view about what kind of a voter you think I am.  Content-free advertising - some of which I can't even figure out where it came from (The committee to elect nicer people or some other such front-job to obscure what side you are on) - disrespects my vote.  You must think I can't think & that $$$ spent on advertising will put you in office - HA! Hammering me with hundreds of TV ads in the middle of my favorite program just pisses me off! Again I have a channel flipper. Your ads may be a great time for me to go to the bathroom.
Finally, stupid polls, continuous irritations brought forth through the mainstream media, insult my intelligence daily.  Generalization from a small sample of people is risky at best. What are the questions asked & how were they asked?  If the elections were intended to be decided by a small sample of random people, I would worry.  They are not! Remember I am alone in the voting booth.  If I remember how you campaigned & I don't like it I will just vote for the other guy.

Finally, you respect my vote when you tell me who YOU are & what specifically you will do when or if you get elected.  You respect my vote when you tell me exactly what your points of view are. You respect my vote when your campaign is positive. You respect my vote when you are candid & clear.  You respect my vote when you do things which show that you are not trying to buy the election through advertisements. Your behavior before an election is a BIG clue as to how you will behave afterwards.

I will not vote for politicians & judges who disrespect my vote ! In a way this perspective is a great extension of idea of selective spending. Politicians do spend your money.

Pass this on to friends and family who care thru this permalink.

I came jup with this brilliant idea  this morning.  Forbid the advertizement on TV, radio, snail-mail or anything except blogs & the internet by any politician whatsoever. (this would never pass muster with Scotus, but I can dream!)  This brilliant  would force the politicians to go out & meet & cover the areas that their constituents live in.  I think that no politician should represent more people than he can individually relate to.

I still can't figure out how PAC attack adverts against specific candidates get away with statements at the end such as "not associated with any particular candidate or party"... what a lie!

I think that TV campaign ads are not informative at all.  There is not really much valid informtion that can be communicate in 30 second slot.  So all we get in these slots is propoganda and smears.  I would have no problems with outlawing them ... or at least limiting them to being informative ... problem is that there probably is no way to determine that.

That's why websites like VoteSmart.com
& the info that is collected there should almost be a requirement!

As a suggestion for a flash mob or political demonstration in support of operation flushgov.net I might suggest that you all save your "extra" campaign material, expecially all that shit you get in the mail & on your doorsteps &, when called to do so, burn it on 3rd street in your neighborhood as a protest against the utter garbage & negative campaigns of this coming November election.
, eh ?
