About: cox & forkum: no fare

I am amazed at the Islamists! They think that they can come over here & establish their sharia for everyone!

The fatwa, dated June 6, 2006, was issued by the "fatwa department" of the Muslim American Society, Minnesota chapter, and signed by society officials.  So this is the way it works! Unelected, unaccountable self-appointed clerics make laws for the people & spread them around when someone wants one. This may work in countries where few can read & write or are forbidden to read much more than the Koran.  It will never work here unless we all go to sleep mentally.
An open mind can be an empty mind if the winds blow too hard!

& for the blind there is an interesting story from Australia
source: ... In Britain and Australia, Muslim taxi drivers refuse to pick up passengers who have a dog with them - even when the passenger is blind and the dog is a Seeing Eye dog. Nearly all religious Muslims believe that Islam forbids them to come into contact with dogs.
...
You folks should read the whole column - it is by Dennis Prager who for years & maybe today holds religious discussions with all groups on his radio programs. It is well thought out!
source: ... First, religious non-Muslims, especially in America, believe that liberty, too, is a religious value; that is why Christians put a quote about liberty from the Torah on the Liberty Bell. And second, they have no doctrine that holds outsiders bound to their religious practices.
And that is why there may be more to be learned about the future of religious Muslims' relations with non-Muslims from Muslim taxi drivers than from Muslim terrorists.
... this is the issue!

Tolerance is good.  This is a principal that i learned as a young adult in the school of hard knocks.  Maybe some day, not today, i will tell that story.  Intolerance is bad.  I think the question before the house is how do you encourage the culture to embrace tolerance and shun intolerance.  This is not an easy question and not one that to which  i have the answer.  However, i am pretty sure that you do not go on a jihad against intolerance.
Looks like someone found another oxymoron!  I don't do jihads or fatwas. I am pro tolerance until I am called upon to accept the intolerable.

If Seth want's to argue the topic then he should imagine what would happen in the mainstream media if say a Christian cab driver hung a giant cross from his rear view mirror & refused to let any person into the cab who was wearing a turban.

Seth , you must have missed the part where I was making fun of the notion of a jihad against intolerance.  I think Dennis Praeger did a fine analysis in his piece pointing out the difference between Islam & most other religions.
How would i have missed it?  I coined it ... err maybe not, see google jihad against intolerance.  But you are right ... perhas i interperted your remarks more in the rwg than you had intended them.

I wasn't aware that my comment was addressed to you personally when i wrote it ... so i found it intially strange that you seemed to have taken it so personally ... thinking the worst of me and needing to set the story right.

One error we frequently make is to indite a whole class of individuals based upon the misdeeds of a few.  Many Muslims preach intolerance.  Many do not.  Here is a article in the news today where those who do not, are rejecting those who do.  Many Christians preach intolerance too.  I'm sure we could find the same kinds of dialogue in the Christian community. The problem is intolerance, not Islam.  I was actually glad that POTUS seems to have dropped the term "Islamofacist" from his rhetoric ...lately he just refers to "radicals" or "extreamists".  Me thinks that cranking up using religion as the discriminator of our enemy is contra indicated.  If that is what you are doing, then perhaps my comments were directed against you.

Btw, there is no doubt in my mind that the cabbie was being intolerant.

The evolution of authority in Islam is a facinating story.  Things have not always been the way they are now.  My take on it in Islam's golden era was not all that dissililar to Reading Groups To Read For A Better Truth.

-snip- moved to a more general topic on religious intolerance 4781

Mark de LA says
Yep, that's fine for the religious domain of human life.  It's not OK for the political domain in THIS COUNTRY! It lends itself to mischievousness in those lands who have theocracies (which is prevented by amendment 1 to the US Constitution in this country.

What does "it" refer to ?  If "it" refers to Reading Groups To Read For A Better Truth then i see no reason why it should only be restricted to the religious domain.

If "it" refers to the Shari'a, then i certainly agree, that body of religious practice cannot be part of US governance and in fact such has been constitutionally prohibited.  Personally I would not want to live in a theoracy and luckily i do not.
Why it refers to your evolution of authority in Islam statements.
OTOH, (Seth)
source: ... At the same time i don't think it wise for the US government to adopt a hostile attitude tward other countries merely because they have adopted a theocracy.  That should be prohibited according to the Prime Directive :-)
... science fiction should not be the basis for US foreign policy. If there was a theocracy that minded it's own business the US, I am sure, would NOT adopt a hostile attitude. OTHO(2), Democrats who object to any hint of religion in the public square are likely to have a cow over it.
- enjoy!
